Thats probably a bit gunged up by now .. a new one would be better ... :)
On a more serious note .. there are 2 types, "plain" and "carbon", the use of which depends on which climate control you have. The earlier ones use the plain filter, the later ones with "auto recirc" use the carbon ones to remove odours as well as pollen from the airstream.
Being a 2.6 my guess is yours is the later "carbon" type
Personally, I always go genuine, so I have no idea on the difference in cost between genuine and pattern

I replaced mine about 9 months ago. Think it was about £15 for the carbon one from Vauxhall.

Vauxhall list price for carbon filter - £18.10 + vat
Vauxhall trade club price for carbon filter - £13.28 + vat.
