Title: Insurance Rip Off
Post by: Tonka. on 14 November 2011, 16:35:10
Time for a rant  ;D

It is my car insurance renewal time once again.
Last year I paid £235 to insure the Omega.

In Feb this year, a young lady reversed into the rear of the car and caused a small amount of damage. Not worth a claim. However, she was reluctant to pay up for a very minor bodywork repair (a tennis ball size dent/crease). I then called my insurance company for some advice.
This did not include talking to the legal team and did not involve a claim from them or her insurers. So absolutely no cost to them.

The girl eventually paid up and I had the work done. Sorted, put to bed, in the past.....or so I thought......

This years renewal £370. Good God  ??? >:(

Called the insurance company and they have to take this no fault/no cost incident into account as it is on the national insurance database they say. Without it the renewal would be a bearable £250.  :'(

The company in question is Admiral who also seem to own a lot of subsidiaries to suck the life out of us  >:(

Do I have to grab the vasaline and take this or is there a way to ease the pain  ;)

Yep. Usual thing. ::) And insurance companies are superstitious too, apparently, so even if it was some other muppet's fault it apparently makes you more accident prone, according to my (ex..) insurer. I'm surprised they don't ask you if you've walked under any ladders or broken any mirrors recently. ::)

Shop around! Make sure you declare the ding but make it clear that it was no fault, no loss and no claim ;)

You have to declare all accidents, regardless of:

a) who's fault it was
b) who paid for it to be fixed

But shop around.

I'm on the blower to my insurance company as we speak  :'(

I don't have a problem with declaring it. That's the law.

Its a highly competitive market, even if you remove the Admiral and RBS companies, so should be reasonable affordable.

All insurances have gone up due to number of freetards who have a bump, then waste NHS time claiming of stiff necks.
