Title: What tools should i buy ?
Post by: Markie on 10 March 2008, 13:04:16
I have now managed to put a Rover K series engine back together from various bits and bobs i had lying about....

Block, gearbox, head, manifold etc are all from differing K series  ;D Its not torqued up but probably better put together than the existing one.

Decided - as the reliabilty is obviously dubious that i would systematically pull it apart AGAIN  to see " how things work in greater detail" by that i mean literally pull its guts apart and perhaps rebuild it for the experience...

So what tools do i need over and above the norm...which i have

Im thinking valve and piston Compression / Removal tools....anything else and any recommendations ?

Piston ring compressor and valve spring compressor plus maybe a stem seal removal tool....fealer gauges for checking end float and oil pump.

Not much else realy, some plastigauge is useful for checking bottom end bearing clearences.

And when you rip off the metal coolant pipe from stat to top hose, inspect it and give me a price (with postage, as its a bit big) ;D

Actually, you got a heater resistor spare?

The coolant leak on Rover seems to have reduced (its got a small weep on rad as well - waiting for another production run on rads before I can change that).

Where is the resistor pack on the car, do you know?

behind where the glove box sits - remove it for best access -  its either bolter or screwed into a plastic platform that holds it in place and will invariably be broken...
