I've been watching a story book on E-Bay for my teenaged son, it's a discontinued book, rare, but, affordable at around a tenner. I watched it until the last minute and won it at 18 seconds to spare, paid for it, great communications from the seller and we've received it today in excelent packaging. I've duly left the appropriate 5 star feedback etc..
Then, I received a message from another E-Bayer, who had previously bidded on this item at an earlier stage in the auction, less than £3 with no further bids since. :-?
They said, in a nut shell, that, I should be ashamed of my self for late bidding and wondered if I was now going to go upstairs to raid my kid's money boxes... " I did that several weeks ago!" ;D
I believe that auctions work in a way that, the highest bid on the fall of the hammer, however late wins the article :-/

I always late bid.i leave it till the dying seconds before i re enter my highest bid, i have been 99% sucessful in doing so.at the end of the day it is an auction site and i am doing nothing wrong.
:y :y

You are absolutely spot on, an auction sells to the highest bidder. Reply to the muppet and ask if they were selling an item would they take the highest bid or not. Sounds like a hypocrite to me. Well won.
-
The person's talking outa their rectum. That's the whole idea of an auction, bid at the last second (if you can), i do it all the time.
Ignore them, their only miffed & jealous.
-
I do the same, there's no point in bidding for something untill the last minute imo.
He sounds like a bad loser tbh, i certainly wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
-
The bottom line is that this said person wasn't willing to pay as much as you or they would have put in a bid higher than what you won it for....
-
absolute sore loser!!!
you bid £10, they bid £3, if they wanted it, they should have bid more, simple as that!!
i dont go messaging everyone who outbids me, theres a reason for being told to "enter your maximum bid" and as clearly explained by ebay, maximum bid is the highest bid you're willing to pay
I wouldnt worry about it fella, i feel really pleased with myself if i outbid someone in the last seconds and win an absolute bargain!
-
The fundimental rule of an auction is the highest bid when the hammer falls wins :y
-
well if we hadnt bid in the last few seconds of our last auction there wouold be no miggy so...
eyah lol

as long as you are doing the bidding and not a software program then it's fair game :y

fair point, but we are not always available to push the button personally due to other commitments...
To me, bid only what you can afford to loose without moaning....

Always bid late, just don't go above what you decide its worth. :y
-
I use bidnapper; if I want summat, I also want to pay the lowest price I can get away with.
Who offers more than the price when going into Tesco?
The whinger should have bidded more if they wanted it!

If you want it then who cares if software is used, as said if your highest bid is in then it dont matter if you lose

In which case, bid what you're willing to pay at the time, and keep your fingers crossed ;D

Unbelievable!.....that somebody would go to the trouble of typing such an idiotic message. :o
Surely the point of eBay auctions is for sellers to get the best price and the winning-buyer to think they have paid the lowest!
Don`t give this imbecile another-thought Dave. :y
I enjoy 'sniping' in the final moments of bidding; `adds greatly to the fun.

A sore loser! I have won items by bidding in last few seconds and also missed items by somebody bidding a couple of seconds later. The luck of the draw, a bit of sport! ;)

hi there i think its unfair, i work long hours and some times i can't be there to bid. but i don't want to put a big bid in if i don't need to as many sellers use more than one account and bid on there items themselves so they get more money for them.
-
If he emailed you through ebay, report the message to them. Doubt they'll do much but you never know.
Or......
Do what I'd do. Email the snivelling idiot straight back and tell him to break off. Much more satisfying :y
-
Some folks frown on sniping, i enjoy it, even to the point of checking the bidding history to see how many seconds you killed the winning bidder by. I've also been sniped, fair go. An ebay auction has a start & end time, what happens inbetween is irrelevant. All's fair in love & ebay...fastest finger first!!! ;D

It cannot be unfair....its a bidding auction site...if you place what you are prepared to pay then why should you be upset if you lose it..........its fair game and i will always bid in the dying seconds..contary to what anyone thinks.... :y :y :y

I think you'll find he is in breach of ebay's general conduct policy.... ::) ::) ::) ::)

break'em sour grapes Ask Marie to go round an head butt him

18secs isn't late bidding, 5 secs maybe. Snipping is encouraged by Ebay, they tell the snipping companies how to access their system after all.
I use snipping all the time, cause I can't wait around at a computer just to place a bid. Placing a bid early I think is a bit daft cause it lets everyone else know you are after it, and some people will deliberately push the price up. Who knows, someone may have helped Tunnie's recent car sale in that fashion.
Another reason for using an automatic program is your internet connection may be a bit variable some times. Mine was down last sunday, but I managed to get a bid in cause I had set up the bid the previous day.

Thats tuff.wont stop me and I aint ever been pulled up by ebay for doing it and i have over 500 feedbacks.
So its keep at it for me...........sore losers.if you want it then bid
-
I have won and lost with late bidding. If something I want then put in maximum I will pay and wait and see, does not matter much of outbid as I will not go past the price I have decided to go to :) Mostly ;) ;)

ebay has a program for auto bidding i think its called bid assistant
i personally enjoy hitting the refrsh button with my max bid ready to confirm at about 5 secs good fun :y

There is /was a site called Snipe(?) You got about 5 free goes to start with.
-
email them back tell him he can buy it for a fiver when you finished with it that will pi....s him off, or put it back on with a tenner reserve
-
I currently use http://www.ezsniper.com/ It works reliably, doesn't screw up as often as others, and is fairly cheap. http://www.auctionsniper.com/ is another I used to use, a better interface, but it started not placing bids so I dumped it.

Automated sniping has got to be an inevitable part of the bidding process. But the coys. who do it can't guarantee placing your bid in time when things are very busy. You have to be very lucky to beat their automated systems though.
Oddly enough, when I bought my 2.6l on ebay, I was intending to watch the bidding for the last hour or so to put in a last minute bid. Then a friend of my wife who had just lost her husband called on us, and we took her for a meal to try to take her mind off things for a while. I reluctantly placed a highest bid before we left, with a big margin over the then highest, because I really wanted the vehicle. When we came back 3 hours later the auction had just finished, and I couldn't believe that there had been no more bids above my last one, and the car was mine for what I believe was an excellent price, well below the maximum I had placed. And the car's every bit as good as I had hoped.
It's all in the luck of the draw. There aren't any rules.

Bidding with 18 secs to go aint late bidding!! I usually bid a bit later than that!! No probs with late bidding - ebay is the same as any other auction - lot goes to highest bidder - only on ebay there is a time limit - use it to your advantage!
