Title: engine runs untill temp reaches norm then dies
Post by: sarah 123 on 20 November 2011, 17:17:27
starts from cold fine. when temp reaches normal opperating. revs climb automatically for a couple of seconds then engine dies. will restart and do the same cycle once engine has been allowed to cool. diagnostics said, cooling and cam sensor. replaced these only to find problem remains. w reg 2.2 omega petrol auto.,be gratefull for advice should you have experience of such a problem.

Can you remember what the codes were - the cam would have been, presumably, P0340, but what was the cooling one?

You scanned these codes by yourself, or someone else did it? If you did, could you tell us codes, it starts with P0.. or P1.. Sounds like camshaft or crankshaft sensor.

Not for a 2.2, which will keep running if one of these fails ;)

:o I didn't know that. So that means booth of sensors must fail to make engine stop?

Correct.  With one failed, it can be a pain to start, but it will.

ive changed the cam shaft sensor not the crank shaft sensor but i have no problem starting it,also changed coolant sensor at back of engine, unfortunatley do not know the fault code for this sensor.

hi Sarah,

Did you change the 1 wire (spade connector) sensor, or the one with the 2 pin connector?

There are two sensors, one feeds info to the temp gauge on the dash, and the other one feeds info into the engine ECU (which will probably be the relevent one in this case)

What diagnostics are you using - do you have ongoing / easy access to them?

Cheers,
James

Further to my last - also - do you have the capabilities to read live data?

It would be worth plugging in a live data reading from cold, and watching what the engine temp (And other other values) do, from when it's started, to when it cuts out.

This might help analyse the problem.

There will probably be someone near you with such kit, but if not, I am in London on I think Sun 4th Dec, so could take a quick look.
