Clearly the seller is a retard who has no idea what tiptronic means
-
Seeing as Tiptronic is a Porsche trademark, and I doubt he's mated a Porsche box to a 2.2 Omega, I would have to agree with tunnie

Got a 6 speed tiptronic on my Jag ;)
-
And had it on my 7 series!
-
Had 'Triptronic' on my old Citroen C4 Grande Picasso..........
-
You get it on many cars, but that term is from Porkers.
"The Tiptronic transmission had debuted for the first time ever only 3 years prior to the debut of the 968, on the 1989 Type 964 911"
-
To borrow from Wikipedia:
Tiptronic is a registered trademark, owned by German sports car maker Porsche, who license it for use by other manufacturers, such as Land Rover and the Volkswagen Group (Audi, SEAT, Škoda and Volkswagen).
Many people (erroneously) use the term 'tiptronic' to refer generically to any type of torque converter automatic transmission that incorporates a manual upshift/downshift feature.

Got a 6 speed tiptronic on my Jag ;)
Nope, you have a sequential auto
The ZF 6HP26 box fitted to Jag XJ is a Tiptronic type box -Tiptronic type gearboxes are not sequential! The Jag box is actually a Bosch® Mechatronic box made by ZF (the maker of the original Tiptronic box for Porsche).
This has a J gate - autofunctions to the right, manual to the left.
Differences explained Here (http://www.carbibles.com/transmission_bible_pg2.html) ;)

The Jag boxes are believe are I exactly the same as the BMW boxes, which in one respect, means they're quite dimwitted at times. However BMW have always said to me it's 'Steptronic'.

This is what a sequential gearbox is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sequential_manual_transmission (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sequential_manual_transmission)
.. and here's my mate "happy feet" demonstrating why you want one.

Note he didn't even bother fitting a clutch pedal. ;D

I was never convinced when it came to sequential boxes.. until I drove the 430 with the F1 box - it's like playing a very expensive, awesome video game :D and now I really really want one.
Not quite as nuts as that hillclimb car, though ;D

Only Porsche have Tiptronic. They own the name. Call it what the hell you like. Fred. Bob. But Jag do not call it Tiptronic. Ever.
Yours is a sequential auto. NOT sequential manual. Very different.

Not all have the flappy paddles, many have it purely on the lever (when in drive, move left, then its functinally like a manual sequential)

Depends .......... SWMBO's Smart is a sequential manual gearbox with auto controls. It takes a bit of getting used to & I'm sure it could be better. Instead of your left foot pressing the clutch there's a motor driven pin that pushes into the middle of a conventional clutch. If you're heavy with the throttle on take off, then you can get a bit of a jolt as it takes up drive, but in general it's pretty good - this car does actually have flappy paddles, not all do.
In all honesty though, I think the Smart Roadster would be a better car if Merc had fitted a proper manual gearbox. :-\ (& you all know my thoughts on cars with 3 pedals ;))

.. and you get flappy paddles that just give the firmware in an auto box a bit of a prod, and flappy paddles that crash a proper sequential box up a cog, with a little ignition retard. ;)
Oh, and flappy paddles that close the throttle... pause... declutch... pause.... select gear... pause... engage clutch... pause.. gradually open throttle again. >:(

Cant see what an educationally subnormal dwarf with pyromania has to do with gearboxes. :-\ :D
