Evening all. I've recently purchased a 3.0 elite. It's not running right as it is very down on power. I've gone to do the paperclip test tonight and noticed there is no eml light coming on!! It would appear that it has been deactivated some way. Anyone know how to get that back on? Could be a dash out and new bulb? Me thinks someone was trying to hide something. Notice the car feels like its missing at idle but seems to be ok with revs on. Also sunroof control not lit and roof not working. Fuse present and looks ok but not checked continuity. Many thanks.

removing the instrument pack is actually very easy on Omega B.
I normally take out each of the bulbs and check each with a multimeter, then change all of the back-lighting bulbs as a matter of course.
Then you can maybe get to the bottom of the problem.
Meanwhile, have a good look at the vacuum connections on the induction system.

Yup, sounds like some scrote has removed bulb to hide fault.
Pop bulb in, then paperclip again :y

Cheers for that. How does the binnacle come out? Can't see any fixings?? I've found a back pipe disconnected. Looks like elbow missing. It sounds like the car is breathing very heavy through the top inlet system.

If the missing elbow is on of the little small bore ones which are littered around the engine bay I have a few spares and can send you one if you need it. :y
Might be worth pulling a couple of plug leads off to see if they are sitting in a bath of oil also - a very common problem which causes misfires. ;)

Thanks for all that. It is a small bore pipe that comes from the front of the engine up and over the rh side of the inlet and joins at the back of the engine. I'll check at work for an elbow if no joy ill pm you. Cheers. Just checked out the guide for cluster removal, so will try and get that looked at.

Does anyone know what bulbs I need for the tell tales on the cluster (facelift model)
Cheers

Evening All,
Well, I managed to get the instrument cluster out and sure enough the MIL light was missing. Fitted a new light and tested everyhting out. I have taken a video of the blink code sequence as it goes on for a few minutes. What I dont understand is if there is a blink between codes. Any advice on that please.
Also what is the best way to upload a 3gp mobile phone video so that you guys can take a look.
I also noticed a check light in the bottom Right of the MID display. Can anybody suggest what this is?
The other strange thing that happens is when the car is started, the MIL light does not come on??? Admittedly im not driving, just trying to sort out best i can on the drive.
The battery voltage seems to be dropping quickly overnight. Im just getting enough to start the car.
Information overload.....Sorry but trying to rescue an otherwise very nice car.

The check light on the MID could be as simple as a bulb gone on the rear light'orlow washer level, check all these simple things first, as to the battery it could be showing its age and the cold weather will show up any weak battery. check for voltage at the battery with the engine running and look for 14.8 volts. that will show if the alternator is ok,then suspect a weak battery.
As to the eml light i have not a clue as never had to to it,but there are more learned on here than me who will assist you.

Ive watched my video back and it does not seem to be consisitent with the video in the help guide, however from what I canmake out, most of the codes appear to be voltage high / low related to various sensors. With the potential battery issue could these be related?? Is there a way to reset the management without using the tech 2?
Cheers for all your help guys.
-
When you say reset the managment do you mean resetting the fault codes? if so you can read and reset the codes with a code reader but thats all you can do, anything else needs tech2.
Hi /lo readings could be voltage related but check and if ness replace the battery and reread the codes after a period of time.

Yet more information to add to this one. I checked the battery voltage tonight as suggested. When I came to the car the battery was sitting at 12.1V, started the car but it was very hard to turn over. Checked the voltage again and it was running at 14.1V. Put the lights on only (xenons) the voltage was 13.8V.
Turned the car off and left the lights on and monitored the voltage. Took approx 1 minute to drop to 11V and would probably still dropped further had I not rescued it.
Would this be battery at fault?

Possibly yes, look at this : http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90619.0 (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90619.0) , there are a lot of help in connection with battery related problems. :y

Check light stays lit until you press the brake pedal (that's when it checks the brake lamps).
If it stays lit after that then there is a fault but the words on the display should tell you what the problem is.
