Title: Public sector strikes next week

"Guess who is paying for unions to organise strikes that will disrupt the public services that taxpayers pay for? Yep — taxpayers.

The unions enjoy £32.9 million in funding under programmes like the Union Learning Fund, which they use to provide training courses for their members. But the main subsidy is facility time: staff working for the unions but with their salary and other costs still paid as if they worked in the public services.

The numbers are staggering: over 1,000 full-time equivalent staff at local authorities; 645 at various government agencies; over 400 in Government Departments (mostly the Department of Work and Pensions); and over 500 in the NHS. Facility time is equivalent to 2,840 full-time staff in total and worth over £80 million."

Oh, and does anyone know how union members many actually voted to go on strike?

Not the percentage of those who responded, but the overall percentage of those eligible to vote.

I'd be interested to know.  ;)

Its outrageous.Cameron should grow a pair and cut off the supply of taxpayers money.It beggars belief.
I know that one of the unions had a ballot which had a turnout of only 30%. Brendan Barber declared it a great victory for democracy because 75% (of the 30%) had voted for action.

What day is your flight? They were talking about severe delays on Sky news this morning (at the dentists!  ;)) and BA are offering flight changes at no costs.

according to swmbo (teacher) it was one of the teaching unions  ???

Thursday, apparently Heathrow border staff are going on strike Wednesday  >:(

Its the backlog it will cause which worries me  :(
