Title: Sometimes lack of power
Post by: V8Cowboy on 26 November 2011, 01:20:48
Hi,

time to show up again, as nobody else could help me so far and I guess as you guys up there have much more 3.2 running, maybe you could give me a clue.

What I experience is a lack of power, it feels like 50 hp are missing. I have this for some years now, but not always, though most of the time. It is like gambling, you turn the key and either everything is fine or... not. The gas pedal feels like glued, the box doesn't shift at once. I can quite well compare both conditions, on my daily route I leave a town area and then come to a long straight road. So I do my 50 km/h and accelerate. If it's ok the pedal feels smooth and direct, the box changes gear at once and the whole acceleration feels harmonic. If not, then the box first tries to accelerate for a second in the same gear before shifting hard, but still it feels "wrong".

I supposed the Multiram not working, but it seems to be fine. Both valves can be activated with OBD, livedata shows activity, no fault code stored neither in ECU nor in box. Next suggestion was: vac tank. But that can't be either I think, because it held the vacuum as I could test the valves with the engine off a couple of times.
Front Lambdas are about 2 years old, MAF about 3. Oh and by the way the car passed the MOT last week without troubles.

If the pedal- or (the throttle in the ? plenum ? which name I don't know exactly) potis would fail the car would be undrivable, wouln't it?

So I'm completely out of ideas and hope you can help.

Thanx a lot!

have you jacked up back and seen if the dif works ok nice and easy, do you know when the gear box oil was last changed., has the engine oil been chaged, do you know what oil is in the engine. have you checked plug wells for oil or water. would check these first....

When was the car last serviced.

A thud from second to third can often be the solenoid in the autobox.

@freecall666: Hmm... how can I check the dif? I saw it being a bit oily. Honestly I don't think gearbox oil was ever changed, at least not since I got the car. Never change a running system and as it runs (at least I thought the box does) and it is only mentioned for hard conditions, I didn't changed it. Engine oil about half a year ago. 10W40. Couldn't check plugs so far, as I unfortunately don't have any place right now where it is is at least not freezing and where I got enough light -> standing outside on the street and leaving and coming home in the dark. Next time at my parents.
@Michael2.6: I don't take it to any service, unless I can't handle it on my own.
@chrisgixer: Pedal as well as laptop.

I see it is going a bit in the gearbox direction. :) Could this be and/or explain, that the problem occurs temporarily and for the whole trip until restarted?

Another info maybe: consumption is fairly good I think. About 10,5-10.7 L/100km, 2/3 motorway, the rest city.
