Ok... picked up my omega today... driving along... car cuts out... engine management light has come on... goes to start it again it struggles to start but gets there in the end... light is still on at this point... so i think ok il keep driving... drives sweet as a nut... get home... turn her off and leave her for a hour or so.... go back out to her and the process starts again... at first no light... 5 miles down the road .... stalls .... light is back on... drives sweet as a nut!!
this is a auto omega 2.0 1999
anyone else had this problem?

Hi there, I think your first port of call should be to read the codes. There is a help guide to do this and you only need a paperclip:) this will give you a start point.
-
Paperclip?
really? sorry new to all this... how can i do this?

ive just doubled check... and im getting

thats normal for a late 2.0 with engine off:
P0335 Incorrect RPM Signal
-
so doesnt explain why the car stalls after 5mins use... should i try it with engine on?
-
p0335 incorrect rpm signal
usually crank sensor :y
-
crank shaft sensor was changed in sep 2010 ... how long should they last?

Thats usually on V6, its crank. But thought with 4 potters it was normal to have that with engine off :-\

Was it genuine?

Was the replacement sensor genuine GM?

doesnt state it on the invoice i have for it, i have contacted the company who supplied the sensor and they have confirmed the invoice i have is a real one.
should it really matter its only been one year... a home made one could last longer than that haha!

So they sent you a real invoice? ;D
Yes, it matters. Pattern sensors have been known fail within weeks ;)
-
ok so if it is the crankshaft sensor, you think this would explain why it cuts out when the engine managment light comes on? but the runs fine with it on....
i think it would explain the poor starting when the engine managment light is on....
-
Cutting out + that code suggests crank sensor.
Will also explain why it won't start for ages, then blast into life.
2.0, actually from memory will run with a crank sensor disconnected. Is 335 your only code?
-
its the only code coming back with engine off... havent tried with engine on.. should i try?
where is the crankshaft sensor on this engine? il try and dis connect see what happens..

matched up the invoice numbers...

UPDATE - just took camshaft sensor off took her for a spin... at first drove sweet as a nut ... engine mangement light was on from the start of my trip... got about 5-7miles and he just died... no splutter or anything like that just died... pulled over plugged sensor back in and she started up like normal (rough)
any ideas?
-
camshaft sensor
not cam sensor crank sensor that is what code p0335 is pointing at :y
-
omega2012 im also in kettering if your stuck at anypoint :y
-
p0340 is camshaft sensor if you had this code aswell as the p0335 i would suggest changing cam sensor ignoring the cranksensor unless it re-occured but seeing as you only have code p0335 it is deffo the crank sensor :y

Actually ignore me I was thinking of code 31
i will tunnie ;D ;D ;D ;D

2.0, actually from memory will run with a crank sensor disconnected
umm how does that work then :o doesnt crank sensor supply the signal for spark and fuel pump :-\ so therefore without crank sensor connected how would it start (baffled)
but something i dont know so asking :y

cheapest place to get a crankshaft sensor from then?
-
i think it would be best to user the local vx dealer,as there is usally several different types, and not that badly priced, our vx dealers dont seem to bad,as they have done work on my company van there

If you have a tradeclub card, then your nearest participating Vx dealership; if not, PM member andyc on here (or phone him, 01284 777254). Don't be tempted to buy online from one of the many sites who claim/seem to supply genuine Vauxhall parts but always don't.
Just out of curiosity, I unplugged the crank sensor on our '95 2.0, and it seemed like it wasn't going to start. It seemed to crank over unevenly and reluctantly which isn't the normal experience (but it usually starts up instantly so dunno the significance of this?).
Anyway, on the second or third three-second burst of starter cranking, it started. I was surprised, but it started and ran, obviously with EML lit though.
Plug crank sensor back in and it goes back to starting instantly, and EML straight off again.
IIRC there are two types of sensor for the 2.0s, depending on year, and the later one is cheaper.
Edited to correct andyc's number.
