Title: Colour of Earth wires to/from ECM on Omega 2.5TD
Post by: AndySnapper on 01 December 2011, 16:16:43
Ready to fit the following 'hotfix' to solve my warm starting problems (I hope).

I am following these instructions:

http://www.tawpark4x4.com/instructions/omega_hotfix.htm (http://www.tawpark4x4.com/instructions/omega_hotfix.htm)

I am pretty sure I have found the blue/grey wire in the loom (thinner than I expected though).

Also found the red/white to a nearby relay.

Little puzzled as to the bunch of black earth cables. I am thinking that these may actually be brown on my pre-facelift Omega.

Can anyone confirm please?

Cheers!

My experience of Vx. wiring looms is solid brown wires are, as you say, earths.
Blacks are usually live...

Yep! That was it! - Thanks!

Brown is definately the colour for earth (and not black) in an Omega. Maybe they should include that in their fitting instructions for the Omega version  >:(

Having fitted the unit according to the instructions, there is no obvious sign of it doing anything at all. There is a red LED on the circuit board which does not illuminate with the ignition switched on so maybe the scotch lock connections are not good enough. If I take the clip off each and then test each metal bar with a voltmeter, there is 13v with the ignition switched on and zero without so I know I attached it to a 'switched' power supply. I cannot detect any current at the other end of the scotch locked cables so one or both of these may not be sound.

Will soldier-on tomorrow now :-)

Cheers!
