I wouldn't so much pick on people's spelling, because they may have dyslexia, etc, which cannot be helped.

It's the lazyness, such as B4 instead of before, and PLZ instead of please, and other such text abbreviations, which wind me up.

They are way to commonly used in all correspondance these days.

When you're selling something wether via eBay or other means then surely you want your advert to stand out for the right reasons. Some ads are so badly set out it makes it difficult to find the information you want, & I would be likely to click ' next'. It's not too difficult to type your advert in Word, use spell check & paste it all to the advert.

I detest text speak and usually try to ruin it

If I see B4 I ask if they are on about bogies

As a life long railway enthusiast you tend to recongnise stuff easily and texters using the official designation for 1 of the 4 or main BR bogie designs is worth mickey taking them.

B4 is a Swindon designed high speed bogie first used under a GWR coach in the early 60s.

As to Ur - a race of intelligent beings found in David Brins Uplift series of 6 books - things like this are funny to avid SF readers

if someone is selling something of value (like a car) and the auction consits of text speak then i am wary, sometimes to the point of not bothering.

If someone can't put the effort into something as stupid as a simple advert then i question their ability to look after the item in the first place, someone who takes time in their presentation of goods A) cared/cares about it or B) wants to create a good impression.

I'm not saying text speak doesn't have its uses but not in everyday conversation......

On a slightly different subject, but still text based, why do they abbreviate anyway?
Think about it, you get charged the same for 16 or 160 charactures, why not get full value for money out of the text and type the whole message out   :y

makes sense to me

I would never get anything else done.
I might do one or two, hate texting, it takes me too long, often get messages from youngest son that I cant understand so end up ringing him. :)

Some of it is down to this "Street" talk when a white "yoof" tries to sound black innit? not being racist, i'd be quite open about it if i was but dey is all talking de same ting...(utter bollix)
Regarding the lack of grammar & punctuation (i managed O level Eng. Lang.) some of the problem must be down to the PC age we now live in. Websites aren't case sensitive which given the capabilities of the home computer is something of an irony.
Lastly, why is "abbreviation" such a long word? :-/

I agree that there are instances where there could be a disability... Gotta say though, I wouldn't buy from a seller who'd written an advert in such a way, sends out the wrong messages...

i.e. nicked, being sold for drug money :-/
