Title: Corsa D 1.3CDTi issue
Post by: VXL V6 on 03 December 2011, 18:33:59
Hoping someone may be able to help, I haven't read the codes yet (though no engine management light on) but my fathers Corsa occasionally won't rev past 4K, usually when under load (accelerating up a hill), can be hot or cold.

Just wondered if this was a common problem?

I've had one of those with a stuck wastegate on the turbo, gives a turbo overboost code and chucks it in limp mode.

No waste gate on these as they are a variablke geo turbo.

Read the codes as it could be a few things, question has to be, why the hell is it being revved to 4K!

Will read codes in the morning  :y

Unfortunately the road from my sisters requires you to go up a steep hill, in order to get past the slow moving lorries you need to use all of that tiny turbo! If you change up before hitting 4K you'll end up in a rev range below when the turbo cuts in and just end up slowing down.
Regardless the engine should be able to rev to the limiter, if you put your foot flat to the floor when it's in neutral it should be able to rev up to the red line.

PS. The paint stripper has done a good job!  8)

looking up from underneath between the block and the turbo there a rod which goes to a pivot,is that to alter the vanes?,that's the bit that was jammed up on the one I saw, once free'd off light stayed out.

Well the pedal test gives 5 flashes followed immediately by a single flash then a pause, one flash, pause, two flashes, pause, three flashes.

Not sure how to read that, guessing 6123 but doesn't sound a valid DTC.

Unfortunately I don't have a CAN capable code reader at the moment.

I always thought that diesels were taken to the limiter during the MOT? Hows this work if they are limited at 2500rpm???

Needs to be in gear clutch down and handbrake off to get it past 2.5k revs from memory. My old rover 600 TD was the same rev's cut to under 2.5k unless brakes off an in gear
