hello,
hopefully just a yes or no question...
does the speedo run off the abs sensors or does it run off the gearbox speed sensor?
just wondering as somebody suggested if i swapped diffs so final drive ratio then id need the speedo from the donor car so it read the right speed

Works from shaft turns coupled with tyre size via tech 2, as i recall. Diff ratio is a red herring as regards displayed speed.

Afaik the rear ABS sensors are the speed sensors.Not sure transplanting the speedo will do any good. Maybe ECU needs a chat with Tech2 ?

If it knows the wheel size, then it'll know the right speed, regardless of diff, won't it?
I may be basing this on setting up the computer on Woman's pedal cycle...

Then the "somebody"needs to understants that the same car set up can cope with various dif ratios grom the various engines accross the range, and that the speed is picked up from the abs sensors on the drive shafts... AFTER the dif.
As you have a 2.6 you already have the lowest geared dif in the omega range. So your into custom gearing in a modified dif. 2woody has extensive ecperience on that, if that helps.

i was looking at getting an lsd from an ex plod so it'd be a lower ratio, now i've started to look at just non lsd diffs too so its reving less at motorway speeds, its only in standing water/ snow that id be wanting an lsd for, sideways action is easy enough to control with the open diff but even after an oil change today it sounds upset lol so i may aswell kill 2 or 3 birds with 1 stone:
1 replace a fooked diff
2 get a lower ratio
3 get an lsd
lol a 3.0 or manual diff would kill 2 of those three birds
p.s there were no large particles in the diff, oil just seemed to be a lesser amount than it should and tiny particles in the oil sat in the bottom of the diff like in metallic spray paints but still planning on swapping it lol

lol sadly no chris, i thought seeing as we were on a roll though i should ask that question :D
i'm breaking the volvo for spares so i can get a vxr engine :y mmmm v6 turbo power unless i make a hand grenade in the form of a supercharger to put me on with the 2.6 :P

the holden commodore is a re-engineered omega *cough* they sold the hsv commodore over here at one point at vauxhall dealers ;)

The Commodore and Lumina share the same chassis as the Omega with minor differences to the lights and body panels, there was a guy on ABS a few years ago with a V6 twin turbo Commodore, just imagine a black Omega with a 2nd generation Monaro VXR front end on and you`ll get the picture ;)
One of the difficulties of fitting a V8 to the Omega is that the RH exhaust manifold fouls the steering box, IIRC tha Commodores have a steering rack instead of the recirculating ball type steering box of the Omega.

Commodore and Lumina ARE NOT same chassis as Omega. ( I do have both )
the V-car underpinnings were made available to Holden, who used some elements of them for the VT and VX Commodore. But, the Aussie cars have longer wheelbase and are wider. Some of the underpinning metalwork is the same, such as floorpans, inner wings and boot floor, plus front chassis members ( just further apart ).
None of the outer bodywork is the same as Omega B
Front suspension is totally different, with a Monza-style wishbone. Rear suspension is similar - same cross-member but wider, same semi-trailing arms. Diff is not the same - Commodore uses BTR diff from Lotus Carlton or TVR, mated to bigger driveshafts and Lotus Carlton rear wheel bearings.
