Title: Flipping work!
Post by: Amigo on 06 December 2011, 23:10:56
Waited nearly two hours to get my container lifted on @ exxtor terminal, Immingham dock this morning resulting in me being late @ Milton Keynes. Once there yours truly & another of our drivers (Pete)...no not that one!!! were re routed to a warehouse in Buckingham where we found one bloke on his own & no loading dock or ramp. These containers have double stacked pallets of Bob Dent BBQ charcoal....yes he's got his own brand now! & they are crammed in up down & left to right. I can't pump truck that much with a half fixed hernia & drivers are'nt allowed on containers. Nobody should pump truck over 500 kilos on a container/trailer & double stacked pallets should NEVER be pump trucked. The upshot was Pete & the lad got on the container with the pump truck & i drove the forklift....licence long expired. Some of the pallets were that stuck two of them could'nt pull them out so we used the old strap & tug with forklift jobbie resulting in some projectile wooden blocks when the pallets broke!!!   Our beloved H&S would've had a field day!!!! That said we emptied both 40ft boxes so got the job done. Hi tailed it back empty through MK, Kettering, Corby, Stamford, Newark, Lincoln, Scunny...Immingham to get the empties lifted off @ exxtor......to be told.......

"The lads are on a break for half an hour." Terminal was empty. It was 8pm by then & they're eating chips....terminal shuts @ 10!!!  Just made it back to our yard after 14 hrs & 40 mins...(we can only do 15hrs)!

Yep. Formally known as "Forklift Certification"

Of which there are numerous versions and not always required by an employer (as they may have thier own compitency based assesment)
