Title: Night driving
Post by: Vamps on 08 December 2011, 00:39:12
Am I alone in thinking that there are a lot of cars with headlights out of adjustment or bulbs fitted that dazzle oncoming motorists? There are times when I find my drive home quite hazardous because of oncoming headlights, seems to be more that I recall :-\ :-\

Cant agree more. Driving back from the South Wales meet i was dazzled so many times my either fog lights, main beam lights, one light pointing in to my face. Again it comes down to basic maintainence.

 >:( Agreed.....dodgy headlamp alignment seems compulsory hereabouts!....although, I thought the MOT test was supposed to stop that kind of thing.
Is not beam alignment part of the test? :-\

Might also(but not in your case) be an age thing. Our eyes get worse, as you get older, for night vision.

Try closing one eye and then swapping to the other when the offending car has passed by.

Think age has a lot to do with it, for me anyway, making all those badly adjusted lights, plus people who drive on fog lights on clear nights, worse :o :o

I'd caused similar situation without I would've known about, transported my mother-in-law who is a really spreading woman and lamp adjuster was unable to do it's work unlimitedly...later when I had to  transport her again lamps were adjusted by my hand. I think it's just a queston of willing and attention.

I've noticed while driving my lorry and I'm sat a few feet up. As others have said just bad maintenance, no excuse really.

I dont think its poor maint, I think the ignorants that we call modern society purposely adjust one/both high

Perhaps it's because to change a bulb in many cars e.g. My wife's Fiesta & my Citroen you have to dismantle half the car & on putting it back together the headlamps that were correctly aligned for the MOT do not go back exactly in the same position because of the tolerances built into the brackets??

Alignment is part of the test. I can only assume MOT stations are not too strcit when enforcing this??

There is a rule that any 'user changeable' bulb must be possible at the roadside with the supplied toolkit...

ones i use are quite strict tbh. Forign cars, ignorant drivers, damage, and those who adjust too high.

My rear blind gets more use at night. ;)

think it is age related well thats what i find plus you wonder most cars/vans have adjustable headlights now for when your under load but how many people use them i have mine low on the van mainley as its always under load but i have to admit to turning them up when you get some complete knob end thats up your arse then gets in front of you and drives like an even bigger knob end ;) only so i can make sure i can see him ::)

perhaps sunglasses may help after all some cool people still wear them when its raining :o :o :y
