Title: Alternator pulley

Hope  this is allowed as the question is about my wife's car, an Astra.  ???  But i know some of you will be working on these regularly so hope you can help.    The free wheel pulley on the alternator was replaced yesterday as it was found to be completely free wheeling so it was not charging.  A new one was put on and it went on fine and tight with the ratchet. Ten miles driving later it came off . Thread on pulley is completely worn off and thread on shaft is just about OK .  My question is how could it come off against the direction of the thread ?? Alternator spins freely .  Any suggestions much appreciated. cheers

I think you are looking at a replacement alternator

the alternator must have a damaged thread on the shaft

Thread was pristine when the new pulley was put on, it now has some slight damage to the outer 2 threads as a result of the pulley coming off.  But by what 'mechanism can it possible come off against the thread when the alternator is free to spin ??
