Hi Everyone, the headgasket has gone on my 2.2dti and possibly the mains bearings. Do I scrap the car or replace the engine? I've spent a fortune on her this year already. Just when I got the car right the fan belt tensioner failed and the belt popped off and to cut a long story short the damage was done. The car has done 140,000 miles and has been a brill car over the last 9 years. To compound my decision I am getting a company car in February so will I be throwing good money away repairing a depreciated asset? Any advice will, as always, be appreciated.

would not scrap, just get another engine block, more easy to just get a block than full engine, then you can check out block before putting in and putting cams back on have seen some engine blocks going for around £80 cheap, then swap over every thing to new block. when you got old one out you can fix it and still have mig on road wile you doit. and even with driving (company car) :y

Still feeling sentimental over the old girl - 9 years and 140,000 miles are hard to forget - so looked around for an engine. So far the only quote has been £645 and then I've got to get it fitted. At the other end of the scale I've been offered £150 from a scrap man who says he has an immaculate 2.6 V6 in his yard for £600.
