Title: Alternator changed now check oil level on!
Post by: Blackcab94 on 16 December 2011, 13:06:37
Well that was fun!

Changed alternator yesterday after total failure. longish job and bleeding fiddly but after a few strong words and cut hands job done. (just remember to remove all air pipes in front of drive belt first, makes getting the alternator out easy after its unbolted)

Charged battery whilst doing the change, all reconnected up, started fine, volts going to battery all good.  ;D

Then get in car and "check oil level" on  >:(

Checked oil all good at top of dipstick, guess numpty nuts here gotta go back under and see if connector off.  ::)

Think i'll wait till the snows buggered off

The connector is down near the alternator iirc,so I would guess youve knocked it off. ;)

Yep that's what I reckon due to the fact that its on all the time, not the intermittent one when going up, down, round corners or on cruise for a long time!!  :y

Oh well bugger it under I go on a dryer day!

If its the one Im thinking of its on top of the sump,so no need to go underneath.  :-\

Thats correct :)

Unless the wiring got snagged/crushed and is now damaged...

I'd been driving along a bumpy road in my old car, with, er, gusto, hit a particularly big bump and the oil level light came straight on. "Ah bugger", says I, expecting to find a big oily mess... had just knocked the connector off the sump. I drove back the other way with a bit more care...

Clearly a sign of not trying hard enough ;D  (long standing members may remember the tractor sumpplug incident on the lanes out the back here ::))
