i have had a horrible weekend had a million things to do christmas shopping, driving 80 miles to see people etc and what have i done ............nothing
got a bad case of man flu on friday night and havnt moved from the sofa /bed/ toilet
now because i feel like death warmed up i started thinking about strange things and started wondering about R.I.P. threads and why people do it on here
if the famous person has made a inpact on your life they always have a facebook/twitter/ fansite or website and if you that keen on then you will know where it is and where to find it and maybe you will pay our respects this way or even go to where it happened.
or maybe the person who starts the thread thinks the famous persons family are going to check out this forum!
or maybe iam totally wrong and missing the point[again]
i wait with intrest to see other peoples thoughts on this

Why, therefore why not? Gen chat full of drivel anyway, like other threads, if you do not like what is posted do not read, ignore and move on.... :y

R1 you are supposedly a strong man, stronger than others and you don't need to tell about your pain (if there is at all) but there are a lot of people who need. Often they don't await any answer just want to feel a little easier by talking about their hurt. ;)

Quite possibly R. The following excerpt from the Forum guidelines will propably answer your question.
Keep posts relevant, short, and on topic, especially on Help threads, and meeting organisation threads. General Chat is the only area where we expect things will go off at a tangent!
The true wealth of this site is underpinned by how many members consider it to be much more than a knowledge base for the Omega car. People (many of whom have seldom met on a face to face basis - rather like the social networking sites you refer to) exchange opinions and concerns one with the other, as do people in 'normal' circumstances. In that regard, I would think that it's understandable to have people discuss whatever issues affect them in the field of social, emotional or practical matters.
It's good to talk and exchange views about a range of things so, should you be so inclined or indeed feel the need, there's always someone on here who has experienced the same thing (or an approximation) and who is willing to share those experiences to help, encourage, advise or caution when the need arises.
I'm also sorry to hear that you've been unwell and hope that things improve for you soon.

I thought there was a saying don't read what you don't like. some people express there feelings more than others and like to hear other peoples thoughts on certain things that others bore with. there's hundreds of new threads to read on various subjects. i find stuff boring and bypass it but i would never complain about what someone else has posted like some members do. I find that quite insulting to be honest but that's just my opinion.

Although I'm not into hero worship, I have found out about certain people's death's from this forum, before I have seen it on the news. If I have never heard of the person concerned, I move on to another thread. :y

This forum is for like minded people with usually the 1 common interest......the Omega. This then allows people all over the world, the chance to "meet" in a way never normally possible.
This in turn brings a wealth and sometimes unusual amount of information to the site...to some, this is very personal or very important to them and so we should treat it with respect! If you don't like what you read, move on.. Do you write in to the news channels and complain to them if you didn't like something or do you switch off/turn over or ignore?? The same principle applies here :y

So stop rather moaning about a little cold and get your rather shopping done :-* :D :y

"have a facebook/twitter/ fansite or website"
Most of which I cannot be bothered with.

Guess its no different than commenting on any type of news eg political or otherwise. Thats what this area of the forum is for ie "general discussion". As others have said you can take it or leave it as you chose depending on your level of interest (or not) in the topic. Personally I quite like the rather broad range of things posted on here ... :y

What a delightful post, clearly explaining what OOF is.
I was rereading some of the early posts the other night (searching for something specific, then when off on a tangent, reading some of the old threads), wondering if we had forgotten why OOF was started, and lost some of the original magic. Rereading some of those first posts in that first busy month (who remembers we were kicked off by our hosting company after less than 2 weeks for being too busy, thus ending up dumped on my poor little server?) has certainly shown I have wobbled from the true goals of OOF, esp when some of the frustrations of running the site get me down :-[. Still, at least it gives me a New Years resolution :D

my reply to the question it helps to talk to someone about your grief. when a loved one passes-on everyone feels guilty thinking could i have done more i know i did. i take comfort that have good memories of my loved ones and memories never die. thats how i cope with my greif it does get more with the passing of time.
