Got a nasty leak on drivers side cam gasket, I looked at the guide and it seemed to finish halfway through? is it just me? :) (there was only one page, I checked that one!)

guide is correct and only 1 page,refitting is the reversal of removal,its not that hard to do,but will be worth doing both banks at the sametime :y

I done mine at the weekend mate. I would have been lost without the forum guides. Even when i got confused or stuck i found the answer using a different search criteria. I am by no means a confident mechanic,so i gave them a good read and used little bags and labels for the bolts and bits. Most of the work i had to do was cleaning the breathers,which on mine were really clogged up with oily mayanaise like gunk,and the plug wells which were swimming in oil. I found that putting it back together is a lot easier than taking it apart. :y

When I did mine on my last omega I used a piece of cardboard to store the bolts, etc in (by pushing them through the cardboard) and you were able to label them appropriately, plus keep them all in one place :y

Can't remember now where I saw it tho, but it definitely works.

a idea often used to keep valves in the correct order ;) ;)

I wanted a picture of the gaskets in place, does anyone have one?
I am pretty confident of doing the job but want a back up plan just incase. :)
Do I have to go over the bare metal work with a flat blade to get any old gasket off? How critical is getting it clean? :)

as im waiting for my gaskets to turn up ,is thier any thing that needs to be tork down arfter.in a strange way im looking forward to doing it,if thay dont turn up tuesday in on the phone.

Cam covers need to be torqued down to 8nm only.you will need a torque wrench which goes down to that figure before you do the job. ;)
Surfaces on heads and camcovers need to be have traces old sealant removed before reassembly.Also dont forget to remove the old O rings from underneath the bolt holes.They probably wont resemble O rings, more like hard/flat plastic washers which need to be prised out with a small screwdriver or similar.

Gareth, well done on having the nuts to do this yourself. I'm learning everytime I get on here. And next time something goes wrong I'll be giving it a bash myself ;) I'm nowhere near confident to do cam cover gasket but i'll get there ;)
By the way, talking of gaskets, there is a lot of talk about head gasket going. on my understanding that the ''gasket'' is the seal then what exactly do the ''heads'' do?

The Cylinder heads sit directly above the pistons - with a chamber (for want of a better expression) above each piston - each chamber has a set of valves (inlet and exhaust) which open/close in sequence with the piston, as part of the combustion process, allowing it to suck air in from the inlet manifold, ignite the air/fuel mixture, causing the piston to be forced back down, and the bi-product released through the exhaust valves > manifold, before the cycle starts again...

cheers TB. TBH i have nothing that needs doing at the moment as i did the coolant flush on my own :y
ill be doing my oil change in 3000 miles time which i know how to do but will prob need a bit of supervising if thats OK :)

Passenger side is a total nightmare!
When you order the seals, check on the 90501652. I have a 2.5, and I cannot find where these go. Maybe 3.0??? At £14 each they are a bit expensive to have on the shelf!!

Is that the ones that sit under the inlet trumpets??
I was going to do these as a matter of 'just to be sure' but then when I found out how not cheap they are, decided I'd wait til I thought I'd need them which I didn't anyway...
