Post by: soumay247 on 24 December 2011, 00:21:02
hi there,  I was told by the garage that the fuel pump for my 51 reg diesel omega 2.2 cd dti had stopped working and can not be fixed and i need to get a new one direct from Germany programmed specificaly to my car, it will cost at least between £400 and £500 if not more just for the part! Has anybody out there any ideas or advice of what to do in order to avoid a massive bill?!  Thank you  :-\

Get a second opinion as a new injector pump can cost £1500 or more.
Is the car running or totaly dead also if you can get the fault codes someone on here will be able to help

The pump can fail in a number of ways, it can be a faulty ECD (they can be repaired) or the actual pump itself. The later tends to fail if the car has been run on cheap (Low Sulphur) for a long time or the car has run out of diesel and cranked continuously to try and bleed the system, the problem is that the fuel is also the lubricant for the pump and the 'city / low sulphur' diesel has had this one property diminshed.

Further diagnostics are really required to 100% confirm it is the pump.

Thanks for all your responses guys, much appreciated.
What happened was is that I started the car normaly and after 20 yards or so engine just switched off without any warning with lights staying on. RAC could'nt get it started and told me it might be fuel pump! Get it toed to my local garage and after further inspection was told by the mechanic that the fuel pump has seized working and i need a new one! The car does not run, it fires but does not start!
Merry Xmas to you all...

If it has a few miles on the clock could well be the fuel pump
