Title: Adele. What voice.
Post by: feeutfo on 01 January 2012, 22:54:04
Now on BBC1/HD. Incredible voice. Not all my cup of tea but credit where it's due.

Having throat problems I believe....? Hope that works out for her.

Anyway, worth a look. On now.  :)

Agreed.

Bit strange that the programme announcer said it was filmed 'at the peak' of her career.  ???

A few awards seem to disagree, although it's not hard to rise above the current crop of pop shite these days. I presume they describe the peak of her career due to health issues. Something to do with polips on vocal cords or sumat. She hasnt sung since.

Hopefully she'll be back. :)

That's the problem. In today's world very average singers are made to look remarkable cos the majority of music bought out is so terrible.

Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike her. And if she writes her own stuff that's a big respect right there (have you ever for a laugh tried to write a song!)

......now where is that Dire Straits cd...............  :y :y :y :y :y :y

No idea aabout the rest of her stuff, but one of her recent hits Make you feel my love (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Make_You_Feel_My_Love) was written by Bob Dylan  ;)

All Chris said was that she has an amazing voice which I agree with, irrespective of whether you compare her to the current or old crop of singers. We then deviate onto her music writing skills and someone has already rescinded his respect which probably wasn't there in the first place.

Point is she has a really good voice. You really can't disagree with that, you may not like her style of music or the fact that she doesn't write her own music but thats not the point. She seems to have a voice which I certainly don't have and am pretty sure none of you lot who put her down can match.

Haha easy Tiger. Note the smilies after my post!  ;)

You may believe that she has an ''amazing'' voice but I don't. The conversation then developed to song writing.  ;)

But hey, this isn't North Korea so we are allowed to express differences of opinion  :y

Quite agree Webby. So in the interest of balance... Or is that re balance...? I think she's very talented. From one so young, impressive record. Opinion is one thing, but facts are here.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adele_(singer)

Not all to my taste as said. But to deny her talent as a singer is a bit like saying night is day.

Having said that, her first hit was shite IMO. ;D chasing pavements was it? But even then her voice shone through.

Anyway, given her voice was the key to success, to loose that voice to health issues is cruel luck. Let's hope she sings again. Weather to your personal taste or not. :)

I got 21 as a part of my christmas box  :y

The best stuff on the album is the tracks that haven't been relesed as a single.

Imho, brilliant voice.
She might not have the range of some singers but you would be well beat to hear anybody put so much emotion into a song  :y

Point me in the direction of someone else current (not dead/or so old that they can't stand up) of a similar age with a voice like hers. For someone so young she has an admirable voice. Easy to criticise others from behind a keyboard, try encouraging people with talent for once and we might not end up a nation of talentless fat b********!

Edited to add smilies  ;D ;D ;D

Apparently they mean something at the end of a post.

PS: Just my 2p, no offence intended and only trying to support someone with a gift that I don't have and envy.

This genre is not really in my field of interest but I took the opportunity to listen to various You Tube pieces and have to say that she does indeed have a pleasant inoffensive voice that may well develop into a fine one.

There are quite a few performers around who do have voices which are, without doubt, listenable to - aside from the intrinsic musical value of the material being presented, but there are few really exceptional ones - indeed thinking about this, there have been very few performers in recent history who have been blessed with a voice which transcends the physical reproduction on the music being made and moves to a point where a greater (if frustratingly elusive) presence becomes evident.

Well, a current and most obviously more talented singer that is currently bringing out records is Sarah Brightman... former wife of melted-wellington-boot-face (Lloyd-Webber)  ;D If you listen to her you'll realise that in every way, technically and melodically, Adele (and I know this is going to incense you) is actually quite poor. I find that Adele really strains when she sings and that is simply not nice on the ears. That's MY opinion  :P :P :P :P ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

With regards to sitting behind a keyboard criticising..... I don't have a gift or ability to sing. Neither does Simon Cowell but millions of people tune in to hear his criticism... yet that's ok.  :-\

The point is, you might now youtube Sarah Brightman and think ''pah, that Bear is on drugs, Adele is much better''..... but as said it's just a difference of opinion  :y :y :y :y :y :y

Nope, she is very good as well & about 30 yrs older. And they both can do something I can't; sing!

Heads off to fire up the hifi and have a listen to a few records.

Very true AM. But then again some people buy Jedward stuff. Or dare I say it, back in the day, PJ & Duncan  :-X

I personally don't buy in to what I call the Cowell Conspiracy. Basically where he tells people that these x-factor winners (moved on from Adele for info) are the best singers ever and you must, ahem, vote to give them a record deal.

It's like Big Brother.... it will eventually die but it will take a long time to get it through to people that it's actually rather pants!!!

I have slowly over the past 6 months really grown to like Adele.  I initially resisted because she came off one of those reality TV nonsense shows.  Her voice and talent is remarkable.

Yet, the neighbour's daughter goes to ACM in Guildford and I heard one of her friends sing who is tipped to tbe the next Adele.  She sung a song she wrote herself and quite frankly I was blown away.

On a side note here's  something for those who like the absurd, like I do  ;D

Yeah the swearing was disapointing. But on the other hand the lack of obvious classic training and show bizzy ness was refreshing IMO, in a raw talent and nothing else type of way. She was clearly over wealmed by the occasion.
London lass turns up at the Albert hall and just gives it some. Fantastic.
