Can anyone tell me if my low fuel (petrol pump) light by fuel gauge shuold illuminate dimly with lights on?
It doesnt come on in the daytime and fuel guage is just starting to get to the red area - trip computer reckonsa 35 miles left which makes sense. once down to 30 miles the light glows brightly as id expect lights on or not.
Thoughts people please

Only illuminates when low.

Lights up at approx 25 miles to go, starts flashing a 10 miles IME :-X
When it starts flashing don't park the car on a leftward slope or facing down hill. Bloody thing will need TWO jerry cans putting into it to start it again if you turn it off >:(
Don't ask, just trust me on that point ;) :-X :-[

ok so if it should only come on when low, am I correct in thinking there must be an electrical fault if it comes on at half brightness only when lights turned on? Is it a simple shorting contact setup in the level sensor or does it go via the ECU?

Assuming you haven't a base spec, what is the lowest Range you have seen?

I'm sure mine is backlit with the instruments... as were my others. >scratches chin<

There is a lightguide to illuminate the dial, which also slightly lights the pump symbol. But its a white colour, not bright orange...

Correct. Just noted how the pump symbol was lit on the way back from the field. :y
You can't miss the orange light, especially when it starts flashing. ;) ;)

OP, take a pic of it now it's dark and we'll be able to tell if it's normal :y

Thanks all, for your inputs. Ive now convinced myself it illuminates with whitish light all the rest of the dials so all is well. It just looked confusing as i had no reference as bulb gone for backlight on temp gauge side as that obviously is a similar setup.

The thermometer will light light up red too when/if you car over heats. Not sure at what temp it does though ??? ??? I'd guess at or around 100 degs :y

It does seem to be in just the wrong/right place to reflect flashes of things on the right of the car as you drive past them: trees, hedges, streetlamps etc...
Makes you think it's flashing :-\

I've seen it showing 3 kilometers range and still it would only take 70 litres when filling.... :-X
