Title: DPF question

Evening everyone...

My best mate has a 55 plate C5 estate diesel. His DPF is in need of either cleaning out, replacing or just being removed. He's been quoted £660 to replace & or clean, then £330 to remove completely.

He's looking to just having it removed, but told him to wait as I am concerned that it may affect his MOT, does anyone know what would be his best option please.......other than ditch the C5 and get a mig ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I seem to recall people on the Pug forum were ripping them out, but in all honesty, I don't rightly know!!

If you remove it then you can expect an MOT failure in the not to near future (as emmision control devices will be checked).

If it is removed or the internals removed (so the externals still look ok) then it will need the functionality disabling in the ecu to stop the regen cycles.

Providing it hasn't gone completely kaput, tell him to take it for a good caining down the motorway for half an hour, much cheaper  :y

Would a high tick over while parked work? say, 3k rpm?

He does 40mins each way to work on the motorway, he rarely does short round town trips :(

We had many issues with the 1.6 HDI and the 2.0HDI. The take the car for a blast down the motorway rarely made any difference.

When we were both serving in the military together, that was a regular occurance.......nowadays, he's become "boring" lol and sticks to rule book.
When we went to France on holiday a few years ago, I was pushing him along trying to get him to do 70 on the motorway, SWMBO was not happy with me ::) ;D ;D
