I have changed the gearbox on the omega to an AR35 and it appears sluggish from start. As soon as it has been running for about 500yds it gets a bit more ooomph. I changed the maf sensor and it is still the same. It will engage the S mode from cold start and appears to go through the gears ok. I have noticed it seems to be heavy on the juice around town.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Its an auto. Awful MPG around town.
I used to get an average of about 28mpg (overall) from my TD Auto saloon unchipped, and about 33mpg when chipped. (Computer reads very high when chipped, high 30s).
As to your problem, get ECU codes read. Being BMW, it very rarely brings on the engine management lights, as BMW like to hide unreliability. There may be some good clues in the ECU ;)

My first TD Estate was an Auto, not good around town about 27Mpg and 38 on a run, not convinced it didn't have a hidden Auto box problem though as it would rarely lock up below 70 or worse if going up hill, got shot of it and got another TD Estate Manual, miles better and quicker, 35 plus in town all day long and 40 to 50's on a decent run.

VERY low 20's locally, low 30's on a decent run :-[
