Title: VERY DISAPOINTED & WONDERING
Post by: waspy on 20 March 2008, 17:06:18
The other week i had the Mig re-mapped & i noticed quite a difference in the mid range.
Took Mig to Pete's today for a run on his rolling road to how much power id'e gained from standard, we did a run the figures are as
follows @ 2000 rpm-88 bhp, @ 3000 rpm-98 bhp, then @ 3600 rpm she peaks @ 102 bhp & no more is to be had.
Just by chance another 52 reg DTi Mig owner drove up to have his cylinder head tuned from his BGT. Pete asked him if we could run his, we gave it a run & the figures are as follows @ 2000 rpm-88bhp, @ 3000 rpm-112 bhp & @ 4000 rpm- 124 bhp.
Mine blacked smoked like hell, but the other guys was very clean..
Ok, iv'e had it tuned & noticed an improvement, so before the power must have been very down. Now there must be problem some where  :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/
I just don't know where to start looking  :-/
One good thing though= i told the Mig owner of our site so we should gain another member  :y

Iv'e been told this today by Pete- The Germans are taxed on their power out put & so manufactures tend to knock a little off for tax reason, which would account for the reading of 124bhp. Maybe someone could shed some light on this.

Sheeeeeet, I didn't see that miggy!  :o Glad you got a few slaps over his way!

Anyway, this is all off topic! Waspy, has it had a service recently? New oil really seems to make a difference to the running and smoothness and no doubt a new air filter would also do the bizz.

Ours has only had one thing go wrong with it, EGR sensor I think, but it was showing management light intermittently. The bloke from the garage took it out for a spin before they looked at it and he implied that it didn't feel as pokey as they usually do. (if a diesel can ever be described as sprightly!?!). All repaired and seems ok now though.

Give it a good thrash to clear it? Should only be smokey on startup though. Have fault codes read I would suggest?

She's had two oil changes since Jan, including filters, new air filter, diesel filter, neat injector cleaner in the filter bowl.
Just spoke to my mate & he said she may be down on compression or the cat may be partialy blocked, so gona take cat off & have a look.
She's only normally smokey on start up, but they put them under alot of load & with the turbulance of speed on the road you wouldn't notice any smoke. Having said that, the other Mig hardly smoked at all so i'm  :-? :-? :-? :-?

Sounds to me like your not getting enough air in.....

We can always plug it into Tech 2 and read the live data.

I had the 2.2 DTI 52 plate, 48000 miles, used to get puff of black smoke when foot put down, this was normal.
