Title: temp needle in the red
Post by: Andys VXR on 09 January 2012, 14:03:56
Hi am i right in thinking my temp sensor is shot . My temp needle goes up in the red and temp light comes on but the car is sitting on the drive ticking over lovely. All hoses are hot the water in the tank is hot and my heater is lovely. The temp seems to rise really fast lets say it on the red in 2 or 3 mins but the car will tick over lovely for hours the fan dosnt cut in but i know this works. Am i right in thinking the sensor is under the top hose it a 3.2.

Sensor for your gauge is on the coolant bridge, right at the back of the block - it's the one with a single spade connector.  :y

Right my temp needle goes up to the red as soon as i turn car on so is it my sensor or gauge. Is there anything that can cause this like does the needle go up if wire is broke or not connected or does it just stop working.

If you short to earth (negative) the gauge should go to full deflection ie HOT. Could be that the wire has come off & earthed somewhere or that the sensor has died & completely shorted to earth.  :-\ :-\
