Message flashed that the car's engine oil was low so opened the cap and saw this! Dipstick is clean and water in expansion tank is too. I had the water cooler replaced around three years ago. Does this mean one of the gaskets has gone? If so how much is the likely cost? Thanks in advance for any replies.

most likely condensation / blocked breathers possibly / rubbish oil
As long as there is no mayo on the dipstick, that is definitely NOT head gasket symptoms :y

Probably not, it's quite common to see some mayo around the filler cap & neck in the cooler/cold weather. ;) :y

I prefer ketchup :). Phew thats a relief its not the gasket. Meant to say its a 3.2 v6 so thought it was going to cost me a fortune. How should I check the breathers? Should I clean the filler pipe regularly to stop any build up?

Cleaning breathers.

To help prevent build up of mayo - clean breathers at least every 10,000 miles.
Change oil & filter at least every 5000 miles (GM 10/40 semi is best)
Some say avoid castrol oil.
Try to avoid short journeys, particularily in colder weather. If you cant avoid them, give the car a god motorway blast once in a while to burn the mayo off.
The filler neck can easily be removed and kept in the boot to use as a funnel when needed, and the oil cap then fits directly onto the camcover.
