Hi everyone
Got a small problem
I've started my car this afternoon and the oil light failed to go off
However I turned the car of checked the oil level and it was fine
Now when the car is idling the light is on but If I rev the engine it goes off then comes back on when at idle again
Could it be the aux belt
-
No, not aux belt.
Pressure relief valve stuck open? Duff oil pressure switch?
-
Ok I know the switch is in the sump
Is the valve the same thing

The oil pressure switch is on the side of the oil pump.
The oil level float switch is in the sump. The level switch brings up the message "oil lack" on the info display if you let the level drop below half way on the dipstick. If that happens then no harm done you just need to top the level up.
The oil pressure switch brings the light up on the dash. If there is no oil pressure then the main and big end bearings will be destroyed after a few seconds (if under load, maybe longer if idling).
Oil pressure switches can fail (or get over sensitive) so it may be worth fitting a new one but I would start by dropping the sump and cleaning the oil strainer on the pick up pipe.
