Title: What do you think of my bra???
Post by: twiglet on 16 January 2012, 13:37:29
I am sure, even as I type this, that I'm going to get slated for asking this...  :-[

I am sick to back teeth of picking up stone chips on my Omega!! Made worse by the fact that Mr Vauxhall in all his wisdom decided to use white primer on a black car!!!  ::)

So I'm thinking about getting one of these...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Opel-Vauxhall-Omega-B-00-04-Leather-Bonnet-Bra-Cover-/150638828605?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2312c61c3d (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Opel-Vauxhall-Omega-B-00-04-Leather-Bonnet-Bra-Cover-/150638828605?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2312c61c3d)

I would only use it when I'm on long motorway journeys, and certainly wouldn't leave it on the car when parked up, so I'm not worried about moisture being caught under it and causing corrosion.  I am worried that it could move about though, and cause friction damage, which would kind of defeat the object of having it in the first place.

Has anyone had any experience of bonnet bars, not necessarily on Omegas...

TIA  :y

Seen many cars running around with them in foreign parts but not as many over here :-\

Worth a go I would have thought :-\

Was thinking I'd get one before I get my bonnet repainted.  That way, if it does damage the paint, it will be going back to the supplier and I haven't lost anything.  :y

I'd be more minded to go with 3M stonechip film, I've heard many good things. and it can be waxed on top of.

I'm certainlyinterested in this film.  I would assume that it needs to be professionally applied.  Anyone know of somewhere in the UK that does this?

Local, no idea if they're any good.

If you don your beard and get over to DetailingWorld.co.uk, have an ask on there and they'll be able to recommend someone.

I've been on there before mate.  I try and avoid it now, as it has a horrible reaction with my OCD and I feel the need attack all my heater vents with my wife's blusher brush!!  ::)

the shop owner covered his car (alfa 156) with 3m.. (all parts).. summer time when I went there for clit he showed me the signs after an accident.. paint was not damaged (of course film was wholly scratched ) and there was a dent..

A friend of mine had all the 'leading edges' (so to speak) of his VXR220 done - it was almost invisible and not too expensive.. Can't vouch for longevity mind as he went & sold the thing two months afterward ;D

Never seen the point of car bras.

People buy them to avoid stone chips, but car bras aren't exactly cheap and they look unsightly...  What's worse, a bonnet with the odd stone chip or a car bra which ruins the look your car all the time?

It's even more futile on an Omega because of their value, they're worth bugger all anyway so a few stone chips is going to make a negligible difference in selling on price.

They seem to be the must have accessory for boy racers on their Ladas in the Ukraine. Their love of leather bonnet bras, might explain where the are so many young and beautiful Ukrainian women available.  ;) ;D ;D ;D

Back on topic. If you only intend putting her bra on for long motorway journeys to try to preserve the paintwork on the front end, then its probably not a bad idea tbh. ;)

Means cleaning it before every application though - else you'll end up scoring the paint with anything that's on as you apply.

That's not an issue really.  I seem to clean my car more than I drive it anyway!  ::)

2.2 gets about a wash once a year if its lucky!  :)

Will protect paintwork I guess but it looks crap!

Firstly personally I think they look like someone forgot to finish the front of the car off and they look ugly.
Also a friend had them on both his cars and regretted them as water seemed to get trapped between bonnet and 'bra' leading to quicker corrosion and hence had to respray the bonnets anyway.

hope that helps
