Title: Bye Bye SAAB
Post by: Kieran on 18 January 2012, 12:28:52
Sad to see it go as a car company. I thought they made some decent cars before GM took them over. Had a 9000 myself and was even more comfortable than the Omega.

It is very sad. I was looking towards Saab to be the next car.

Shame they've gone, quality cars, IMO even in the VX era.

I've always liked the 9-5 estates, suppose they will be cheap to buy now.

Yeah they are dropping in price, but as a major downside, some of the Saab specific common failing parts are not available. I am aware of 2 or 3 common parts that apparently you just can't buy anywhere! The supply chain is drying up.

I wonder if any other parts manufacturer will start making bits like Xpart did when Rover folded

Its a real shame to see Saab go to the wall.  :'(
I have owned 4 Saabs, 3 9000's and 9-5 in the past, i enjoyed owning all of them. They were all pretty reliable, the turbos were bulletproof. They really could take high mileages, especially the pre GM 9000's. Liked them for their little eccentricities in the cabin too. Guess there will be some very cheap ones around now, might try and find a 9000 Aero, nearly got one before i went for my miggy.

It is a shame seeing the brand die out. But sure certain parts from 95's 1.9td/2.2petrol range were same as vectra's, even then wont get every part. and doubt vauxhalls part warranty would apply when you tell them you're using it on a saab.  :-\ :-\

Sad to see them fold, but I doubt they would have lasted this long without GM's support either. Things had been getting tough for quite some time, and GM brought economies of scale that were previously out of reach and they still folded. Seeing quite a few 61 platers now!

It's a big shame they've given up, I've had a few SAAB's over the years. Most memorable being the 93 Aero 2.8 Turbo, one of the nicest cars I've ever owned, something about them makes them feel special. People keep saying parts won't be available in the GM era, 90% of the parts were shared with Vauxhall and other brands, so there won't be a parts shortage.

It was indeed one of the best cars I've owned, the way the Power was delivered was beyond belief, it'd easily wipe the floor with an E46 M3 with in gear acceleration. Mine was remapped had 282 BHP on a rolling road. I do miss that, properly miss that car! It had the looks, the power, the comfort, fantastic seats, great stereo, everything about it I liked, and I can't say that about a lot of cars.

Totally agree with all the above. Had a '96 900 Turbo SE 3dr which I miss to this day. Had it poly bushed, uprated brakes and pushing out 265Bhp.....surprised loads of boys with hot hatches. :'(
