Title: Did a quick video
Post by: Omega_Dan on 19 January 2012, 19:57:03
Did a video of the kickdown on the 2.5 after fitting the chipped ECU. Car feels chrisper and sharper on the throttle.

Just after opinions of V6 owners (and anyone really) as how you think pick up compares to your migs.

Was on my own on a flat road but did have about 45kgs of valeting stuff in the boot.

That does seem quick. Not sure how it compares to mine. However, with the 'S' mode on doing 50-90 is where the Omega shines imo.

Got a 0-60 one?  :y

no mate. its hard to do it with the camera and i shouldnt whilst driving :-X but i may do one when my boot is empty ;D

I dont use the sport mode often but the chip has made the standard mode a bit sharper.

I knew there was a reason I went for a 3.0/3.2 ;D :P

Seems OK, TBH, the lack of cc shows at motorway speeds, and is evident in your vid.  The bigger engines just keep pulling through.

My old 2.5, Goldie, had 3.0l cams and a Superchips chip, and was absolutely nowhere near my 3.0l MV6.  It was shortlived, I overcooked it up the M40 one day when I was late for an ABS meet, much to the amusement of the ABS members as I pull in the carpark by coasting, and even more amusement when Tunnie had to come and tow me home ;D ;D ;D

I know hat your saying mate. I know its not a quick car and i rarely go over 90 but its nice to know i do have a little extra. I dont drive it hard at all but when i do need to go past something i have a bit more confidence now. ;)

Also having never driven a 3.0/3.2 i value your opinion :y

My post wasn't meant to sound as negative as it perhaps did.  My point was, chip and cam a 2.5, although on paper its only about 10% down bhp wise, the gap is still very, very noticible.  Also, in that 50-90 bit, a 3.0/3.2 will hold 2nd until about 86mph, making that particular speed range  being on-the-boil for the longer geared 3.0/3.2.

Its always good to have the power.  I know with these chips, you have to rag them a bit to get the best from them. Not that that is a bad thing of course ::)

Ditto ... is there such a thing for the 4 pot or would a software u/g on the auto ecu be just as good

To quote my dear old father, RIP, "You can't put a shine on a turd".

Roughly translated, buy a V6 (or V8 ::))

Not at all. Elite pete is hopefully going to sort some 3.0 cams out for me. I know the Ar25 wouldnt want anymore than that running through and it will benifit me for the 3 days a week i carry my valeting stuff (about 50 - 75kgs) with the extra oomph.

Id love a late 3.0 elite but the ones i have seen need all the jobs doing ive already done plus there in not as good nic.

That definetely looks like it takes off a lot quicker than mine. :y Mine is driven very slowly almost all thetime though,so its probably extremely lazy now. ;D

You may larf young Steve, but iirc the ECU memorises driving style and reacts accordingly. ;)

Well I never knew that!  Very clever if that's the case ;)

That's auto box ecu learning adaptions. Nout to do with engine ecu.

More gently driven cars will shift earlier than those that are driven...  ... more progressively. ;)

I've had both a 2.5 & a 3 litre Dan, and the 3 litre is very noticeably different in the pulling stakes.
If (or maybe when) I decide to have another Omega I'll definately be looking towards a 3.0/3.2, although I'd still be just as happy with a 2.5 if it's the right one (eg, very clean & minimum CDX spec)

As far as your video goes, your 2.5 is definately quicker than our's was without a doubt.
It will be interesting to know what it's done to the fuel consumption compared to the stock ECU, you'll have to post back and let us know once you've driven it for a while as you normally would.

OK quite understand the superiority and popularity of the bigger six pots  ::) but some of us do have the much malined, lowly, 4 pot's and like our miggy's just as much .

So can I repeat the question and hope for some information  :y

Bit of an update. I did a run from Dudley to stoke and back again which is a 80 mile round trip and I found the mpg a little better. I can have a quarter of a tank in and the reserve light comes on about 5 miles from home but no reserve light this time. Was driving Steady as usual. I do notice though there is no delay in normal drive mode. Its almost as responsive on the throttle as it is in sport mode.

Few people asked me to do a 0-60 video to give opinions of my chipped ecu :y

Take no notice of them, there is nothing wrong with a 4 pot, same car and very capable, just not as fast...........I do believe they are very tunable though....... :D :D :D

Dunno, its difficult to tell. You really need a proper head to head race though it seems quite fast to me.  :)
