Which Mustang did Steve McQueen drive in the 1968 film, Bullitt?
I'm guessing it was one of the more potent models. By the early seventies stringent emissions regulations had all but killed off the Detroit muscle car..... :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\.
Anyone know?

Sexy, sexy car. I'd love one, but fastback prices are astronomical.
I have the engine, at least, sat in my garden.. (Well, one possible engine for a Mustang - 390ci FE with iron heads, actually out of a Galaxy)

Hired a 2010 model in August 2010 when we did the coastal drive from San Francisco-Long Beach bright red with cream leather, top down most of the time, beautiful car 19mpg top of my wish list if the lotto ever comes up.

Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong guys.
I believe that you get roughly 60 cubic inches to a litre. So 390 cubic inches is (counts fingers and thumbs).....six and a bit litres. Do I have that right?

Yup, 390ci is roughly 6.5ltr and was anywhere from (from memory) 250hp to 350hp in original form (although it has catastrophically restrictive iron heads with two tiny valves per cylinder).. I also have a 428ci FE - roughly 7ltr - though that has Edelbrock aluminium heads and TWR throttle bodies, so will hopefully put out an awful lot more than 300hp ;)
(And while the headline hp figures look low, remember that some of these engines will have more torque at 1000rpm than a lot of cars have peak..)

;D Nah - an LS engine would, though.. But no, the FE is destined for the kit car for which I placed the chassis order in December ;)

I would love a 240Z with a big V8 up front :) Trouble is that over here your options for a 240Z are either 'absolute basket case rust bucket' or 'recently restored with enormous price tag' :(

The later 260Z and 280ZX never quite held the same appeal for me. Mainly designed with the American meerkat in mind, I think.
