Hello everyone,
I've have a 2.5 td face lift 2000 mig and I'm getting around 30mpg around town, about 34 on the motorway. This seems a lot less than the preface lift 1995 one I use to have.
Secondly, when you turn the engine off, engine cuts out immediately, now some of you might think its odd that i should find this odd. But normally when you turn the engine off it stops running almost immediately, with a sort of tapering off as the last solitary cylinder fires. Now imagine if you had some thing causing friction, or causing some sort of a load on the engine, then it would cut out immediately, this is what i'm getting, I wonder if you anyone else knows what i'm talking about.
I have also changed, plus, all filters but not much difference in mpg.

You should achieve around 33mpg locally, and around 44mpg with nice steady motorway cruising. ;)
The only method of accurately determining fuel consumption is to 'brim' the tank - use for a few days - 'brim' again, then do the maths. You might be pleasantly surprised!
Best to ignore any on-board displays.
What's the temp gauge reading? :-\

coolant temp always hovers around 80 depending on whether you have the climate control drawing heat from it or not.
Outside temp as you know is quite low these days, -2.5 to 10 degrees centigrade
I certainly don't get 44 on the motorway, have checked several times now by measuring the amount of fuel i'm putting in with a lab flask. The maximum I got out of it was 37mpg whilst driving at an aboslute rock steady 60. No agressive acceleration either.

That's certainly not helping matters.
Ours consistently runs at around the 95/96 mark - a touch over halfway up the gauge scale.
TDs need to run hot, so I'd be looking at changing your thermostat before delving deeper. ;)

Has it been chipped in the past as this will alter mpg.
Whens the last time you thrashed the living daylights out of it to clear the carbon out.
Try cleaning out the vac pipes and breathers.

^^^^^^^^^ What Seth said! My TD was running at about 88º until I changed the 'stat last week. Now runs happily at 95º.
