Title: Omega chavmobile
Post by: Tony H on 21 October 2006, 18:35:08
Driving home yesterday I went to overtake a couple of cars,so stamped on the "go" peddle and noticed what could be described as a high pitched screeching noise coming from the car at about 5000 rpm :o. I thought it could be the auxilery belt slipping,so thought I'd better check out under the bonnet. Nope no noise from the engine bay,on further investigation I discovered the noise was turbulant exaust gas exiting a recently replaced backbox ,it sounds like on of those chavvy whistling turbine thingys that you stuff up your tailpipe. The worrying thing though is that I think it sounds quite good. Do I need therepy :-/

Mine whistles at high revs too :y I'm used to it now. If it stopped i'd probably think there was something wrong. (I like it too, so no need for therapy ;))

I've never noticed any unusual noises from my 3.2, but SWMBO's 2.5 whines for about 30 seconds after it's started and there's some sort of pump that runs for about a minute after it's stopped. I think it sounds great!!  :-[ Kind'a like a turbine or something.

I thnk the noise after switching off the ignition might be something to do with the A/C as the blowers still work for a short while after the key's out of the ignition.

Lol best compromise is to drill the original airbox. Mines sounds great under acceleration, real deep roar..

K&N 57i Induction kits and the like are a total waste of time on the V6's.

Trip to the RR Day in wrexham with a few V6's in attendance proved (through back to back runs) that by fitting an induction kit you can loose upto 12bhp on a hot engine...So waste of time imho.

Exhaust system sounds utter pants as well as standard.

Best bit about these cars is how they 'take-off' at 4krpm.

And they're only really any good at 60mph+ too..
