Head gasket failure is down to the crap design of the head bolt positions (Buick didn't have the extra row of them on the original design and Rover finaly removed them on the 4.0/4.6.....they should be torqued to a nominal 25Nm).

Timing chain will have stretched so good its been replaced.

You can bet your bottom dollar the cam shaft and followers will be cream crackered so its a shame that was not addressed (although its tricky with the engine in situ).

Oil pump will be below par by now but can be got at easily enough and the face re-surfaced (the alloy face gets scoured and the oil pressure drops off).

They need VERY regular oil changes!

Dizzy at that era can be problematic due to wear and the side mounted igniton amp lets go occasionaly (cheap and worth keeping one in the boot).

Watch out if its an auto as they are pretty dire and dont hold up well against loads. In fact its thanks to the weak auto that there are quite a few V8 engines about!

Rust is your main problem on a discovery of that age. Check the inner wings, inner and outer sills, body mounts, boot floor, rear cross member infact all of the underside. The sunroofs, windscreen, alpine and rear windows and rear door seals all leak so check the carpets and sound proofing are dry ;)

blimey glad this ones been looked after  cam and followers were done when hg was done oil pump done basically engine rebuilt   autobox was reconditioned 12000 miles ago even though it didnt need it  the amount of money spent on it is a small fortune and all fully documented   will get the ignition amp as you say mark and keep it in the boot :y
