Not an Omega, but still a Vauxhall.
2001, 2.6 Vectra B - V6. The type with metal cam covers.
Genuine GM Gaskets (supplied by our excellent Mr andyc, from sealed GM packets) - part number 24450871
I've never fitted them to a vectra, before now, but they just seem very.... poorly fitting !!
Review the pics below. What do you think? :-\ They are definitely all pushed in correctly and evenly.
I'm sure they will be OK with equal clamping force all over, once torqued up... but still, don't appear to fit anywhere near as well as genuine GM Omega ones, on the plastic ones!! Although it does go in, there seems far too much length on the straight run.
Could anyone with experience of the metal cam covers confirm if this is normal, please?
Cheers,
James

PM Sent Albs. First class should get them here, if tomorrow before 3pm. As per PM, if yours fit properly, EG they're not the same as these ones... I'll give you the full GM cost of them, and speak to our good friend andyc about a credit note for the potentially faulty items :)
Cheers,
James

James
if your not happy with them then please send back for a refund. I'll try them on a set of alloy covers i have in the workshop and see what they are like, think i might know why but can't see the reason for it.
The covers and gaskets changed part numbers during production but the late covers & gaskets have both been superseeded back to the early covers, so perhaps early gaskest don't fit late covers.
If i get the same problem as you i can then go back to GM and have the stock pull from warehouse to be inspected .If they are found to be incorrect then they will have to order a new batch to the correct spec................major back order time.
i know with some of the CIH motors i get this problem but a bit of playing will see them seated but like i say if your not happy send them back
Cheers

Many thanks, Andy, really helpful service as ever :y
TBH I pressed a long bit of wood against the long run of the gasket, and it seemed to sit in the groove fine. My instinct is that, with an equal clamping force and careful tightening of the bolts, it should be fine
I think Albs has gaskets for one bank, so I'll compare with that, and then we should know for sure. It might even be normal for the metal covers, like I say, I've not done a Veccy before.
Not a complaint buddy, just trying to avoid doing a job twice :y

Can't argue with that for customer service :y :y
Top notch as ever Andy ;) ;)

What was the outcome of this curious tale in the end ? :-\
Is there more than one type of gasket ?
-
hi albs,
will either drop you a phonecall or PM at a more reasonable hour and explain findings :)

OK James, I will look forward to that. :y ::)
-
yup i would like to know aswell owning a veccy :y

OK sorry guys - only reason for PM to albs was because I have something to logistically sort out with him.
The outcome was, although they appear loosely fitting, the gaskets from Andyc seem to have worked fine. I checked the car over today, a week after they were fitted, and no signs of any leaks.
Give me an Omega any day, though! ;D
