Even BMW's ///M division are now doing diesels :o The 5 series, X5 and X6 are all getting a 3.0 Triple turbo diesel producing wait for it.... 381 BHP & 546 lb/ft of torque, the 5 Series will also get 4WD and do 0-60 in 4.7 seconds. That's as quick as the 2005 M5 with a 5.0 V10 and 507 bhp was! Best bit being 44.8 MPG :D
-
And all the more likely to be misfuelled by someone ;)
-
They will be doing the same in another 10 year with electric / hydrogen cell / turbine powered cars. Never thought id see an M5d ;D
-
<Lazytinker rubs hands with glee> ;D
If I had to own a diesel, it would probably be a Beemer. So that, clearly, is not going to happen any time soon ;D .... Although double the range does sound appealing I must say.

dont like diesel never been to my taste

I'm not surprised by this to be honest. The bmw diesels have so much torque. My E92 330d M Coupe is noticably quicker mid range than my previous 330i and I can get 50mpg out of it without trying too hard. At work we have pitched e92 335d coupe's against e92 M3's on a rolling start and the 335d will match it to just over a ton. Both limited to 155mph. Looking at the book speeds makes you wonder why anyone would want a petrol beemer. Awesome engines. :y

I want to see those M series diesels after a -20 celcius night.. ;D

No problems at all :y Leave it until the Pre Heating message goes and you'll be fine :)

When I had my 530d it always staggered me how much torque it produced. It would pull like a train in any gear :y When my beloved Omega goes to the scrap yard in the sky or the BMW(petrol) is stolen, they will be replaced by a BMW diesel. I used to acheive 30mpg around the doors and about 44mpg on a long and very quick run ;D ;D

remeber when bmw first brought out the 3.0 diesel 5 series i had one on order but they kept changing the delivey date ended up loosing my patients and opting for the petrol as bmw just could not confirm a delivery date basically said you wil get when you get it :o :o........the demo i drove was bloody quick..some time later managed to get a 730D for a 3 day test drive could not belive how quick and economical it was for such a large car.......its where i would put my money if i could afford them again....mates got a 330d m sport thats really quick
glad to see they are bringing over some models only available in europe :y :y out of my reach but nice to see

diesel is for space-heaters and cross-channel ferries. Won't find any of it here.

Wow. I've just come over all funny. ;D ;D Didn't think I'd ever see that in writing. ;D ;D

Agreed.
I expect a comparison of the BMW development budget for diseasel engines against petrol would be quite telling.
Besides, it's a repmobile, and most company car policies I come into contact with stipulate "thou shalt drive a tractor*".
*- unless you're the M.D.

Their new range on turbocharged petrols are fantastic.

The evolution of cars like human race's goes to more and more difficult structure and my guess is all the diesel and petrol fueled cars will be out of fashion soon. The car as itself is eternal idea there will be cars all the time but drived by alternative fuels. /maybe how the Flinstones did - who know? :D :D :D/

There was a piece on the news yesterday about the fact that diesel is rising in price so sharply against the price of petrol that lots of diesel owners are considering going back to petrol. I believe that the gap between diesel and petrol prices is now the biggest it's ever been, and set to get bigger :-\
-
And unfortunately LPG seems to be catching both of them.I paid 82p per litre yesterday at a garage I was paying 60p at 18 months ago. :(
-
Petrol all the time ! When I decided beside petrol it was important that I'll always have alternative choise eg ethanol or gas to be fitted up not to mention the price of theirs. Although cost of gas is increasing hopely never be so high than the one of petrol or diesel.

Comparatively (LPG/Petrol/Diesel) the price ratio hasn't changed dramatically, although the gap has closed, in the last 3-4 years. When I got my first LPG powered car I was paying 37p per Litre at the expensive garages :o :o It mad a big jump from that initially but has since remained reasonably stable
-
see go green on one hand then when everyone catches on bloody goverment hike up the price..lambs to the slaughter spring to mind.........vote Albs for president :y :y
