Title: Idle probs/cutting out
Post by: pacman13 on 27 January 2012, 22:54:35
Hello, got myself an omega 2.0i 16v 95 reg Auto and was running ok for 3wks but now the engine cuts out when i approach juction/traffic lights and if it doesnt cut out it doesn't always find 1st gear and it jolts when it does. It idles erractly. Ive been reading the forum posts and thought i'll try this paperclip test to see if there were any diagnostic errors but there wasn't just flashing 1-2 repeatedly which i assume is no errors. Any feedback will be very gratefull. Btw im not a techie on cars. thanks

As above,(RobG), 10 min job to clean, depending what you use, Carb Clean, Switch Clean, dont be surprised if it over revs for a a few miles it will settle down to normal. An option would be to un plug ECU after the clean for an hour or so, so it can re learn to normal quicker.

Make sure it';s properly in when you put it back. Cable tie around ICV and screw holding cable tray to plenum is good too  :y

10 minutes ???took me longer than that on my 2.0L could be first tiem i have doen it but found it fiddly, luckily I had adopted Blue peter approach, as when valve was out I produced one "that I had cleaned earlier" cured all the problems that oP mentioned.

Or did you mean 1o to clean the valve :)

Maybe a bit longer if you choose to clean it over the kitchen sink with a cup of tea in yer hand.  ;)

Ok cleaned the air restricter out and it was totally blocked and enlisted the help of the wife as she has smaller hands to put the thing back in and the 1st thing she does is drop the washer but luckily found it on the ground. Was ok for the 1st day but the auto gearbox is having trouble finding the gears and revving alot untill it does which is dangerous when trying to pull away. Any ideas.

Possibly bad or low fluid in the box. I'm sure there's a maintenance guide on here showing how to check the level and flush if needed. That would be my first step.

Had a look underneath the car and the gearbox sump was covered in red oil so must be low on fluid, looks like its been leaking from the gaskets so am going to replace them hoping that will cure the problem with the auto not finding the gears. Just a few queries. Can i clean the filter or should i buy a new one and am i right with the torque settings for the following. Filter (3 bolts) 20nm.. sump bolts 12nm. level plug 33nm btw which is a allen key fitting and not a hex bolt fitting.
