when idling my td has a rattle some where. it seems to be from the front end pulleys. those covers on the top of the engine were removed ages ago. there is no probs on its performance. engine is steady, no jumping about whilst idling. i,m wondering if a bearing or something on the front end is naffed. Is there any member close by that i can get a opinion from. do not mind a drive out for sound advice. then i can attempt to put it right. been to a couple of local garages & been told not to worry all oil burners sound noisy. but i know this motor & this noise sounds to me not right. :-\ :y

it may be auxillary belt tensioner :-\

remove the aux belt and then start engine :y

Whats the mileage on it? The chains can get noisy if the oil changes have been neglected

Aux tensioner, PAS pump and chain guides are known to cause rattles on these...
