Title: Worrying .
Post by: omega3000 on 28 January 2012, 16:55:17
Been busy with fitting steering arm, ball joints and exhaust on my other car so mig got a bit left out since i changed the HBV and installed the new rad ...started the mig up yesterday and warmed up nicely all checked and all ok "no leaks" went out today and the header tank has dropped off its level and had to top up with 2 pints ...ran the car till warm and no leaks , hoping this is just the water level that just needed circulating although the car had been given the full 9 litres 50/50 mix . Other than that its worrying to think where the water is going . Water has not dropped since i topped it up today  :-\

maybe ok,they do get air locked and a little run out often makes the level drop...if your still topping up after a few trips out,ide check the rad and pipe connections.. :)

Will check , just the thought of all that vx coolant escaping ! The temp gauge is sitting at a constant 90 standing idling although i have not taken the car out on the road since doing all the changes and other bits .

Someone with a similar problem on here , and one advice was to check the header tank and cap for cracks . Mine has all the correct vx coolant in but the tank looks old and dirty and almost impossible to see the correct level .Ill check that as well , in the morning im hoping to still have the header tank full but i will let you know  :y

A new header tank is around £35 and takes 10 mins to fit  ;) ;) Looks nicer too  ;) ;)

Good news , the water is still there so must have been an air lock or something why i had to top up  :y Been to the scrapyard again today "cant keep away ;D" Got a cleaner header tank and new cap although this one had some oil residue in it , prob the reason why it was in the scrappy anyway but the rocker covers a dry  :o Took some proper clips for the plenum breathers and a few more bits and bobs . I picked up 2 header tank caps and noticed that on has 2 breathers underneath the cap ??? My car has just the one breather hole ...which one should i use  ::)
