Hi all, just a really quick question.I have just purchased on item on ebay for £34.99,but they have taken £36.99.I don't have a pay pal account(don't want one)so i just paid with my debit card.Is this £2 extra some kind of charge, debit cards don't incur charges do they.BTW its not p/p as this is free.Any info apreciated Dean :y

I guess fees might be incurred if a debit card is being used directly? Was it an eBay store? Presumably not a private seller?

There is always a fee with Paypal, for either the seller or buyer. As this extra amount is not an odd number but a 'round' £2, rather than a percentage of the sale, I would suggest it is a processing fee. Best bet may be to contact the seller and ask :y

Hi guys, thanks for the replys. The company is planet car parts, think i will contact the seller.break paying fees, no fees on debit card payments anywhere else afaik :y >:(

They wouldnt see it as a debit card charge, they would say your paying them for making it a 'SECURE TRANSACTION' for you!! :(
-
There really should be no extra charge with a debit card. I would have told them where to go if they charged me extra for using a debit card.
-
It would be nice if they told you there is a charge.I dont know if its ebay or the seller >:(

There is never any extra charges. If you pay £34.99 that's all you pay. eBay take a fee from the seller and so do PayPal, so the buyer maybe only ends up with roughly £30 of the £34.99.
Check with seller first and if that does not shed any light on the situation then raise a complaint with eBay as you purchased the item through them and they own PayPal.

They shouldn't charge anything without explaining it.
Just to clarify though (as I have a card machine and merchant account), the merchant does get charged a fee for debit card transactions but it's generally a flat fee (sub 50p IME) instead of a percentage like Credit Cards ;)
