Hi I recently posted about my V6 misfiring, (Misfiring - Again) this was orig. post;
Hi everyone, my omega has been nothing but trouble recently. A few months ago it started stalling for no reason, then it just stopped doing it randomly. Then it started with a bit of a misfire but not too bad, I changed the spark plugs but no real difference, and then it started getting worse until it was too bad to drive. My mechanic friend said it's prob distributor pack or HT leads so I changed both and it run fine - I thought great i've sorted it, then it started stalling again and then about 2 weeks later and misfire's back as bad as ever, no power sounds like a tank and getting 13mpg! I got the car from father in law and he thinks it could be oil breather blocked/ oil comin through cam cover gaskets. So tonight i've taken a few plugs out to have a look. It hasn't been driven for 3 days so don't know how much oil i'd expect to see but the heads of the plugs are dry as a bone, just a tiny bit of oil round the threads. When I put the new dis pack in it had different bolt holes so I just zip tied it in so maybe the vibration has ruined it it was only £30 on ebay! Just stange how it was fine after for a short while then came back. I don't know if the misfire and stalling are linked either, I'm really hoping someone can help cos I really can't afford a new car at the moment! Any help will be really appreciated, I don't just want to start throwing money at it cos it's not worth much any more, Thanks, Dan, Oh only other thing i thought might be possible was maybe ECU is kaput and ruining the dis packs? I dunno i'm no mechanic, Help!
After everyones advice (thanks) and finding a new genuine coil pack for £45! I decided to change the coil pack, and also the bosch super 4's to genuine sparkplugs. Did it all expecting to all be fine - but no it's just the same, maybe ever so slightly better - slightly more power and mpg but still terrible! I have done the paperclip test and only came up with 21 and 31, 21 is throttle position sensor. I also tried pulling HT leads out while running to see if i could find out which cylinders are misfiring, but couldn't really tell, every time i let go of throttle cable it stalls and hard to keep steady RPM while pulling leads off. Any Ideas at all? Please help im getting frustated and if i don't get it sorted im gonna beat the crap out of it and take it to the scrappy! Thanks, Dan

Give the throttle body a good clean with carb cleaner. Ensure moving parts are moving freely.
Give the electrical connection on the TPS a squirt of switch cleaner and check wiring for any damage.

Thanks for reply where abouts is the TPS? and is the throttle body the bit on the front with the 2 butterfly type things in? Thanks

Thanks, just been out and cleaned the, icv, tps, maf and air temp sensor connectors, can't tell if it worked as it doesn't stall on choke, so well see on way to work tomorrow. Still stumped about the misfire though, no visible sparks between leads in dark, and they're new, does anyone know if theres much difference between cheaper leads and genuine? Running out of ideas quickly, ill triple check the leads are correct tomorrow but i'm sure they are. I'm thinking maybe a broken/dodgy wire somewhere? Thanks again.

You have the leads in the correct order on the dispack?
5 3 1
2 6 4
Looking from the front of the car.
5. 6
3. 4
1. 2
The above is again from the front of the car, position of spark plugs.

I'm pretty sure, i did a diagram originally in my haynes manual when i took it apart and labeled them and checked when i put them back on. Then double checked after it didn't run, Only checked by feel though so will triple check tomorrow. Stil wouldn't explain why the original replacement i put on worked for a couple of weeks then went again - Strange!
Cheers

Well cylinder 3 and i think cylinder 6 seem to be the problem, (hard to get to 6 with that bloody loom in the way!) , am i right in thinking the coil pack is split into 1/4-2/5-3/6 ?
Also there are 4 connections inside the plug, could it be earth, then the other 3 for the 3 sets of plugs? I just have a suspition it might be a dodgy wire, unless anyone else has any ideas? Is it a constant feed going to the coil pack or is it pulses? Just thinking about putting a multimeter on each connection and turn the car over - see if the current is coming through
Thanks. Dan

You have a missfire, you have replaced the dispack for a new Bosch one.
Have you got 3 & 6 on properly or not? Remove the cable tray to make it easier. If you have any other leads try them.
If you have no codes on a 3.0 then its usually either dispack, leads or spark plugs..

I have pulled both leads off and put back on and no difference. The coolant temp. sensor has been mentioned 3 times now so gonna try that, will also get some leads from scrappy and try replacing 3 and 6. If i ever get it sorted i will post what it was, so hopefully will help someone in future. Does anyone know about the feed to the coil pack though, can i test each wire with multimeter to see if there is a current present? Also can i leave the cable tray out (does it protect from heat or anything or just keep wires tidy?) Thanks

Also when i pulled the lead off no.4 the spark was jumping from lead to plug (normal i guess) but then it went pop and a flame came out the spark plug well is that just some oil being burnt or fuel coming out through threads? (spark plug not tight enough)?

I've tried changing leads over and they are fine, so i guess the only thing it could be now is ECU? I will order one from ebay and see what happens.
