Post by: Stallion on 31 January 2012, 16:43:25
Just out of curiousity thought il put the tomtom on the rear lighter slot to find out it dont work, but the front one does which is wierd? Are they both connected fuse wise or seperate!! (makes you wonder how long it hasnt been working for!

Just parked the car the sensors were working beeping etc, come to move the car now get a continous beeep tone, checked the rear fuse in the boot inside the tyre well, seems all fine??? Any ideas please? :y

any muck or salt etc on the sensors themselves or what mine done when i hit a bird (feathered) was pushed it in slightly so the sensor was half covered by bumper  :y

as for the rear cig lighter i dont know whether seperate fuses but easy enough to take apart armrest console and check for voltage  :y

Check the relay.

Will check the sensors now, as for the relay where is it located, and how can you tell a faulty relay?

Checked the sensors, also gave them a wipe nothing seems wrong or mis-aligned sensors! The funny thing is it was working one minute and not the next, didnt hit nothing etc. :-\

To check, ignition on, engage reverse, ear to each sensor in turn and listen for "ticking" noise, or gently place finger on each sensor to "feel" the ticking/vibration. If all 4 "tick", you`ve got a wiring fault

Took the main park pilot unit out, checked and double checked connections etc, all seems fine! Just wondering is there another fuse somewhere? Apart from the blue bosch one which is on the rear along with the wires..  :y

In the parking sensor "circuit" there is a test component, usually on the left side of the boot behind the rear cover .. it looks just like a blade fuse but is actually a circuit board of some description ...  if you remove this "fuse" like component and then switch the ignition on and select reverse the system will give a series of tones to indicate where it "thinks" the fault is ...

There is some info here ...

and some more

These are on the old site but a read through tells you about the test procedure .. :)

Thanks Entwood for the info.
For the time being taken of the PP unit instead of just disconnectig the audio output! Will leave it off couple days, and at the same time clip of the sensors individually and look for excessive dirt or moisture. Will keep you posted if any answers found!!

mine just suddenly gave continous tone one day over 2 years ago and has been disconnected since - one of the 2 wiring looms is believed to be problem - evg else checked as working

So didnt it bother you that you've got a feature, but why aint it working? An yep like i said out the blue got the tone!!
BTW - noticed your avatar, that is a VERY GOOD replacement option!!  :y

It doesnt help the fact bosch no longer do them, but one way or another would want to get it done, otherwise regret making the holes on a irmscher bumper and having them filled with something useless!

There are several threads on the "old" site dealing with all the problems I had with the parking sensors ..... all after an insurance repair that involved them removing the rear bumper .... it was just after that, and some heavy rain that the problems started. Eventually, and after much faffing and learning about the test sequence, which occurs when the 430 ohm resistor thing is removed ...

that the problem was found to be a damaged loom, the guess being that when they removed the bumper they "stretched" the loom, water got in and shorted out 3 of the sensors and the control box .... replacement loom and 2 sensors from an OOF member , control box and 2 sensors from AndyC .. and it all works again ....

It does not bother me now - it did at first but could not be bothered with a job where work disproportionate to problem to be solved. I may have a go but the Omega is doing little miles these days.

Phaeton has sensors front and rear and a reversing camera with options for in line (adjacent to kerb) and in bay parking!!!
