Title: Woodcare question

Hi all, I'm in the middle of refurbishing my kitchen. The units have solid oak doors that have a silk finish varnish coating. Can anyone advise me on the best wax to treat them with to protect them and also to fill some small inperfections and cracks that have appeared in the varnish? I have tied Pledge with bees wax, not to impressed though.
Also has anyone had any experience good or bad in using plasticote polyurethane airosol varnish?

have you tried just beeswax layered over the imperfections, if you melt some of the wax and drip it into the affected area you can then polish it smooth

Ahh. I used some stuff a while back. It was a sort of paste coloured to match the wood which you then wax polished on top of.

I'll see if it's still in the "man drawer" (I may be some time). ;)

Who varnishes oak anyways?! :o

Get the varnish off and treat it with oil, the difference is staggering  :y

Yeah! Old engine oil!! You'll be amazed at the results!!!  ;D

Use lime wax on oak and see how good it looks.

The jobs dragging on a lot longer than I hoped so I havent got the time to strip the doors and they are generally speaking in good nick. Also the varnish makes them very easy to wipe clean
