Title: What does the HBV do and when
Post by: polilara on 01 February 2012, 07:22:22
Hello

It is understood that cooling liquid can bypass the heater or go through the heater. I understood that the heater air temperature is controlled by mixing the heated air and fresh air. Is the water temperature in the heater controlled by this valve or is it just on-off ?

On/off.
Vacuum to it - coolant bypasses matrix
No vacuum to it - coolant sent through matrix.

OK, now that is clear.

But why is it needed at all ?

In winter time heat is needed and in summer time when AC is on the temperature is controlled by heater ??

Why the HBV is there at all ?

It isn't really needed.

Our car left the factory without one (and I'm extremely grateful for it).

It's just that even without 'using' the heat of the coolant in the matrix by blowing air through, some of the heat soaks out into the cabin.  This is then in direct opposition to the efforts of the AC system, wasting energy.  So the HBV is put in for all AC-equipped Omegas, unfortunately it was never engineered sufficiently to be reliable!

vacuum supplied to it ONLY when a/c is "on" and BOTH driver and passenger temperature selection is showing "LO"

Interesting , i have bypassed my air con and fitted a non air con belt so would i need the HBV at all ...if not i can simply remove the thing  :-\

Is that the same on all years ?
My shed is a pre facelift without all this fancy climate stuff but it has aircon ?
