Title: omega replacement..
Post by: tidla on 02 February 2012, 00:01:01
they are not getting any younger,

fuel prices on the up, buying costs coming down, what would your choice be??

i know the early examples you can get for peanuts but at some point the "bond" shape will become affordable maybe..

later ones were aluminum bodied i believe.

Not knowing what to replace swmbo Mig with I am looking an another one ::) ::)  she wants big and auto, and we are not into Merc's Jag's etc, she can get away with more than me but work wise image is important, less so for swmbo.  I particularly can not to be seen as driving 'posh' cars, for me the Jeep seems not to fall into any preconceived expectations, a Mig would be fine but a Merc/BMW etc would get trashed where I have to sometimes go.... :-X :-X :-X

Jeep - no preconceptions.....

do you remember the tv series "queer as folk" ?

after that, Jeep sales in the uk fell by 50%. So much so that the Wrangler was withdrawn from the uk completely.

That's what I replaced my Elite with - you're right the later XJs (called X350) were aluminium bodied.  Mines a 3.0 litr V6 SE - all the toys and more, more power that Vx 3.0 Litre, and lighter body - well pleased

No mate should be read as . . .

Mines a 3.0 litr V6 SE - all the toys and more.
More power than Vx 3.0 Litre, and lighter body - well pleased.

Probably lucky you haven't encountered one Chris as more power than 3.2 Vx V6!!   ;)

Oh I like a challenge, don't worry. :)

Do they supercharge them? :-\

And can they be lpg'd?

In relation to the OP the answer is easy, buy another car but keep the Omega - even if it is only a Desmond. ;D ;D ;D :-* :-*

Bigger - wider and longer.

Still got both Elites - saloon and Estate, which are up for sale - need to clear my drive!!  Also got 03 plate replacement 2.6 V6 Omega Estate - these Estates are still one of the most spaceous on the roads - more difficult to find a sensible replacement for these.

Guess you've hit the nail on the head mate - most later Estates are smaller than the Omega - unfortunately the big Volvos on the second hand market are usually very high mileage - so its not easy to get a fairy recent Estate with same load carrying capacity (with similar dimensions - to fit dog cages etc) as the Omega.

True enough, most of the newer estates are all swoopy curves and rooflines which doesn't lend itself to big and spacious

E series Merc is the only estate that I know of that has a similar load carrying capacity.
