Title: Wiper blades
Post by: D on 02 February 2012, 01:16:13
Got some bosch aerotwins for the omega. Last time I used retrofit flatblade wipers they were Valeo something or the other which was recommended by some test bench. But they were pretty rubbish and squeaky.

I was therefore going to get some regular bosch wipers when it turned out that the aerotwins were only £2 more. Fitted today and they are superb. Absolutely quite and not a streak in sight. It needs to be seen what the long term outcome is but I tend to change wipers every 6-10 months.

IME Bosch aero blade twins are the only flat blades worth fitting.

Last set lasted two years ish. Recommended on here by Bob Dent. Bit of a thump when they change direction, but only fractionally louder thump than...

GM traditional style ones, which don't last as long and IME dont give as consistant wipe at speed and with springs give concentrated pressure points that scratch the screen over time.

:y

Cost v life does seem to justify Bosch flat blades btw.

Believe it or not mine were Tesco's own brand on sale for £7 & they've been fitted for more than 18months now without so much as a squeek! :o ;D :y

Than you can be sure a well known company is producing it for them hence lasting that long! And length wise does anyone know how long the wipers are on the miggys?  :y

I used a place on eBay called 2edge. They sell pairs of flat blade wipers for 6 quid. Mine have been over over a year and there great.

Hmmm by the sounds of it I may give Phil's idea of Tesco ones a go.  :y Every little helps!  :-X ::) :D

24 & 19". Valeo are a recognised wiper manufacturer. If their blades were below my expectations then I am not sure Tesco or ebay would be any better. I remember trying a generic ebay one on a friends car(cannot remember what it was) many moons ago when these  retrofit flat things had just come onto the market. They were ok, about the same as regular wipers I think, but did leave lines whilst wiping which I absolutely hate.

Edit: The Tesco ones are £7 each. Bosch £11. Not a huge difference? Plus they have fiddly adapters that you need to fit.

I used somewhere similar - pair of wipers for about the same price.. work beautifully, no streaks, no smears, no noise to speak of. Much cheaper than £14 at Halfords (and that was with a trade card)

As did I; got all 3 delivered for about £6. They work really well, and as I tend to change them quite often, the saving should be quite large.

Took seconds to fit and if I remember correctly postage is free.

Interesting. £6 for 3 wipers. Take away say £2 postage. Thats £1.33 cost to you. So I would assume manufacturing costs of 20p or less.  :o
