Ball end of cable held with a clip

Red arrow shows the clip to the ball end, pop this off with a small flat end screw driver, same with the orange arrow. Make sure you cover them well, as they can ping off at 1,000,000 mph.
Then the ball end will wiggle off.....
Black plastic part, is for the cruise cable if you have it :y

no he is doing it on the car he got of me :y :y :y

Ok, I've come back, done it and I'm almost ready to lift it off...
Tunnie/Rob... I've popped the throttle cable ot no probs as per pic (marked no. 1). However there is that second paralell cable and also in arrow no. 2, does this have to pop out? I've tried and is quite tough so I thought I'd ask before I exert too much pressure and break it! :y
-
Sorry; forgot pic ::)

1 is the thottle cable, this stays put.
2. is rubber bracket type thing, its there to secure the cable in the correct place, its squeezed into that bracket on the plenum. It pops out.

Great, then so far as I can tell that's done!

Bit nackered. All packed up now. Scuttle back. Am I ok to leave the batt negative off until tomorrow? It's wrapped in kitchen roll!
SMD,
Lol no mate, never. Just joined here about 3 year ago and decided I wanted to give it a go with the Clarkson line ''how hard can it be'' on repeat on my iPod ;D. The inspiration is from these guys... I've just followed their guides :y
I have a guide where the likes of TB, Tunnie, Albs, Daz etc etc kindly gave me a list of ''essentials''. I'll PM it to you if you like as I keep everything in my faves ;)
Tomorrow, cleaning breathers and going to aim to get to the diss-pac. Should be a bit easier without the plenum :y
Shattered!

Hahaha I nearly asked myself that ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Only two things ent wrong... I dropped a bolt down the engine somewhere (was only the one that holds the EGR to the bracket and I'm pretty sure I can raid my tool box and find another one)..... Then I picked up my toolbox and it wasn't secured properly so now I got to find the right space for 1 ;1 hunderd and something bits hahaha ;D
If that had happened at 10am this morning I'd hae gone back to bed ;D ;D ;D

You deserve a beer or three. Well done mate. :y
Dropping the bolt and spilling the contents of tool box - weve all done it (many times in my case),its a rite of passage. ;)
Dont talk to DLK about rites of passagr. He thinks it means something else entirely. :o ;D ;D

Get yourself one of those magnets on a telescopic "pole" - found them indispensible in retrieving lost nuts, bolts etc.
A must if you take the inlet manifold off a V6 - makes it se easy. :y
-
Well done webby, quite satisfying when it all goes to plan eh :y even more so if it works when it goes back together ! :D :D ;D
-
Cheers for all comments folks :y
Henry, yes you're right. i bet refitting will be a nightmare ;D but fek it, not thinking about that tonight ;D ;D ;D
-
Right guys, another successful day :y
It took an absolute eternity but got all the leads off the diss-pac, marked up the leads and popped them back on in the correct order. I now know what people are on about when they say have plasters at the ready!!!! A little bit of blood was shed!
Also, it's worth noting that the position you have to get your hand into is awkward to say the least. To get ''no.4'' in I found myself bent right over the engine from the passenger wing with my right hand twisted around the back of the engine trying to find the correct diss-pac prong whilst holding the SP lead :D :o
A torch was essential for this... and guess what I didn't have ::) In the end I found a mini torch which was perfect for dropping down the back of the engine on its loop.
So now all I have to do is clean the breathers and replace which I'll do next weekend (may do the breathers tonight if I can be arsed).
Two quick things...
Firstly, the car is sitting with tissue in the inlets. It's all dry and the tissue hasn't stuck over night; so I presume I'm ok to leave this like that until next weekend? Can't see any problem myself.
And secondly, I did pop off all the leads to the spark plugs and there's a little bit of oil around the plugs. It is very very minimal as I know Ralf had these done and I was thinking about taking all plugs out and cleaning them (and leads). Agree?
Cheers all.
Just also to mention that so far it's been really fun and very satisfying...will be even better if I finish the job and don't have to take it all back apart to replace something ;D ;D ;D
-
Tissue will be fine in there as long as its dry webby. Oil may be just residue from when the gaskets were changed, but keep an eye on it in case it gets worse.Wont do any harm to give leads etc a bit of a clean. :y
Did you find that the leads had been put on the dispack in the wrong order as was suspected ?

To be honest it was so tight in there I had a job locating them at first and couldn't really tell what was where. I then decided to give it a bit of stick and cleared a load of wires out the way to reveal the dispac... then only on shining the torch down there did I see the numbers. So time will tell when I switch it on ;D but I won't be worried about it next time as I'll know what to expect :y
-
Good work Webby, often many here just say "whip of the plenum" like its opening a yoghurt. Its not easy if you've not done it before, by the summer you will be changing springs :y

;D ;D Cheers mate.
Very enjoyable to do. Taking my time, then next time hopefully I'll be aware of various pitfalls. I can't see refitting being a problem... just got to be mindful that I did undo/unscrew/unplug a lot of things and to make sure it's all back in place before turning the key.
But we'll cross that bridge next weekend :y :y :y

Yes, well done. I bet it's nice not to have the pressure of needing to do the work to get back on the road eh? Never experienced a dispack, but definitely seems to be one of the most awkward jobs to do on one of these, it'll be good if you can get it running properly again, it would be most satisfying. Would you keep it as a second car?
-
hi steve the plugs are all new ones put in the same time as cam gaskets where done so you dont need to take them out :y :y :y :y

That's what I thought. Cheers Ralfy :y :y
Jonnyc, hell yeah I was really grateful that its not my main motor cos it gives me confidence not to worry about ballsing stuff up :y
To be honest mate I'm a bit undecided. I like the car a lot but I think I'd rather have the cash. HOWEVER, it's not going anywhere until I've got it running, practised a cambelt job, CC gasket job and head gasket job. Well that's the plan. And then, assuming it's still running and I've not buggered anything up ;D I'll ship her on.....or will I keep it :D :D ;D :y
-
By the way, something I forgot to post which I thought maybe useful....
When I got to my diss pac everything was horizontal and the 6 prongs were on top. Great.
However when I got a torch to check the numbers on top I found they were as below:
I originally thought it was:
1 2
3 6
5 4
Just for info :y :y :y :y

Btw your learning same way I was, I bought an old 2.5, learned on that. Free from thoughts of, what happen if i break it? Or what if? Bought it for £300, sold for £850 after I was done with it. (proper advert with decent pictures!)
In process learned an awful lot!

Thats a new position , ill try that ....also note it would be better if you were a dwarf with 5ft thin pipe cleaner arms :y
Glad you got it sorted , now you will have a row of people lining up for diss pack removals ;) :y

Nice one mate. So learned shed loads AND made £550! Now that's what I call a result! :y :y :y :y

A dwarf would still have the same problems. I'm thinking you need to be a mouse :o :y

Looking more like my diss pack has given up so any advice welcome pm or anything , didn't realise the pack was numbered and a handy note you have posted about it :y Hunting down parts now .

EMD, if I get a chance I'll get a pic before I put the plenum back on just to highlight how awkward it is! :y

Nice one , i have bought an extra box of plaster's and thinking the how to should be re named
" MINCED ARM DISS/PACK REMOVAL "
;D ;D ;D ;D
Would be interesting to hear from any other members who have done the job and if they have any tips at all on making it easier but i think im right in saying that there is no easy way seeing where the diss pack sits at the back . Easiest way to get it off would be when the engine is out which must of been the way it was installed in the first place ???
-
As for easiest way to remove, I wonder if removing the inlet pipes (if that's the correct term... I mean the 6 ''V'' tubes that I currently have tissue in) would help. Almost like removing another ''layer''. Totally unsure on that though.
Certainly I now know that you aint getting to it unless you got the plenum off!!!
-
I know the Y tube your on about , i cleaned that out friday together with the other breathers so yes that can come off ..as for the plenum im not sure if i need to but will look into that :y
